About Coach Ian Michaelchuk

Coach Michaelchuk is entering his 12th season as an Assistant Coach. Ian played for the Pioneers for 4 years(2003-2007), serving as an alternate captain in 2006-2007 when the program captured its first 25 win season. Ian graduated from WPU in 2007 with a degree in Finance, Management, and a minor in Professional Sales. After graduating, Ian coached the Cherry Hill Middle School program to a 14-6-1 record in 2007-2008. He then decided to join the WPU coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2008-2009. Ian has worked alongside Coach Ballance both on the bench and also focusing on player development since 2009-2010 when WPU won their first SECHL title.

Since Ian joined the staff the Pioneers have gone 262-63-9, earning 9 auto-bids to the national tournament ('09,'10,'11,'12,'14,'15,'16,'17,'18) in 10 years, and capturing 6 SECHL Championships ('10,'11,'12,'13,'16,'18). Ian holds a USA Hockey - Level 4 Advanced Coaching Card and currently works as a Sales Manager. He also completed his MBA at William Paterson University.
