#48 - Exodus by Bob Marley and The Wailers (With Our Special Guest, Bram Wooley!)
At the end of 2023, Rolling Stone published some small adjustments to the 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums. Among those changes was a decision to drop Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers, and replace it by moving up their album Exodus, an album that had previously been in the #71 spot. Given that unique change, we thought we would re-share our original review with Bram Wooley, for your listening pleasure. Enjoy! ----------------------- It is always comforting to revisit an artist we have reviewed before, and this time we also had the pleasure of inviting back the same guest who joined us last time we reviewed Bob Marley and The Wailers. You may remember when Bram joined us for our review of Legend.  This time, Bram helps us unpack this iconic album and all the amazing hits it contains!  As a reminder, you can find our favorite songs from the RS500 on our Spotify playlist right here - we'll be updating it as we go with our favorite songs from each album! You can check out Rolling Stone's new 2020 list right here. A Tribute to Robbie Robertson, and revisiting The Band with Tyrell Lissen

A Tribute to Robbie Robertson, and revisiting The Band with Tyrell Lissen
On August 9th, Canadian music icon Robbie Robertson passed away. Robertson was a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and movie score composer. He was part of one of our favorite bands, The Band, of which we've reviewed two of their incredible albums (self-titled at #57, and Music From Big Pink at #100). Robertson's work with the Band was instrumental in creating the Americana music genre. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Band, and into Canada's Walk of Fame, with the Band and on his own. In tribute, we thought it would be nice to revisit our conversation with Tyrell Lissen, host of the incredible The Band: A History podcast. We also encourage you to go check out Andrew Hickey's (our special guest on our review of Back To Mono) latest episode of A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs where he talks specifically about The Band and their hit song, The Weight. #97: Master of Puppets by Metallica (with our special guest, Peter Buck!)

#97: Master of Puppets by Metallica (with our special guest, Peter Buck!)
Yes, we realize it may have been more appropriate to have a guest named Peter Buck on our last episode when we discussed R.E.M... but we think you'll agree that THIS Peter Buck is far more suited to talk about metal! We're thrilled to have a guest who has actually taught a class on metal music - especially one with as much love and appreciation for Metallica's iconic Master of Puppets album! This album has jumped from its one time place at #167 all the way up into the top 100 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest albums. We're in for a special treat here, as Peter brings his wealth of music composition knowledge, and draws the lines and connects the dots between classical music, jazz, rock, and thrash metal. We hope you have as much fun on this journey as we did! #96: Automatic For The People by R.E.M. (with our special guest, Scott Williams!)

#96: Automatic For The People by R.E.M. (with our special guest, Scott Williams!)
In 2021, the world lost a passionate R.E.M. fan when Michael Iafrate passed away. Michael was an incredible individual who Ben had met at a conference after discovering their shared love of faith, justice, and music. Michael was described in his obituary as the following: Father. Partner. Son. Brother. Friend. Activist. Liberation theologian. Singer-songwriter. Musician. Magician. Artist. Vegetarian. Voice impersonator. Advocate. Bibliophile. Writer. Teacher. Student. Seeker. Punk. We share this conversation in his honor, joined by his friend, Scott Williams, who shared fandom of this band and this album with Michael. R.E.M.'s iconic album, Automatic For The People comes in at #96 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest albums of all time, and we can't wait to talk about this one in honor of Michael Iafrate. We hope you enjoy this conversation!
