Episode 51 | Stephanie Stout | Stout's Shoes | Head Honcho

Episode 51 | Stephanie Stout | Stout's Shoes | Head Honcho
In early May, my partner Peg and I were in downtown Indy celebrating with a friend after she completed her first Mini Marathon. We decided to pop into Stout's Shoes on Mass Ave. I had never been and had always wanted to check it out. The storefront is so inviting and once you enter, you feel like you've been transported back to the early to mid-1900s. Peg and I were both looking for a pair of Hoka shoes. A lovely woman named Stephanie helped us. She was so welcoming, professional, and attentive. We chatted and laughed with her. I ended up purchasing a second pair of shoes (dressy sneakers that I wore to Zoobilation) and Peg purchased a snazzy pair of brown leather shoes. I also bought a really cool bag by Cotopaxi made out of recycled parachute material. Peg got a fanny pack from the same brand. During our conversation with Stephanie, I mentioned that I had a podcast on which I feature local small business owners. I asked her if she would be in interested in being a guest. She said she is always up for promoting her business. Stephanie gave me her business card. I love her title on it: Head Honcho. :) Stephanie and I had a fantastic time chatting about the amazing, rich history of Stout Shoes. It is a fourth generation family-owned business - so rare these days. Stephanie's husband Brad's great-grandfather started the business. Stephanie shared how she got connected with Stout's and told us about her role as "Head Honcho," the growth they are experiencing (new location of their Carmel store opening soon!), their phenomenal employees, her love of helping and serving people and making a difference in the community, and her values of drive and empathy. Stephanie is passionate about building and fostering relationships with her customers, employees, and industry partners. Stephanie is a brilliant, kind, hardworking, and passionate (to name a few of her wonderful qualities) businesswoman. I am so grateful for having had the opportunity to sit down with her and hear her story and the story of Stout's Shoes. I can't wait for you to hear it! Stephanie's Bio: Stephanie Stout is owner and Managing Director of Stout’s Footwear and Shoestores.com. Based in the Indianapolis area, Stout’s Footwear consists of 4 full- service brick and mortar locations, as well as a large e-commerce business. Founded in 1886, the original flagship store in downtown Indianapolis is considered to be the oldest continually operated shoe store in the US.  Under Steph’s (as her employees call her) leadership, Stout’s continues to have healthy growth both in stores and online. Her passion for all things related to the footwear business is evidenced in her relationships with her customers, employees, and industry partners.     Stephanie is very passionate about supporting the independent shoe community through social media, mentorships, and good old fashioned swapping stories, ideas, and shoes!  In August of 2022, she was nominated and elected to the Board of Directors of the National Shoe Retail Association.  Stephanie is 1998 graduate of Ball State University and lives in Indianapolis with her husband Brad and their four cats.  When they are not working, you will find them hiking, biking, and traveling. She is the baby of 7 kids with five older brothers looking out for her. She played softball growing up and into college. Even though she is more of a tomboy, she has also competed in a couple of beauty pageants, modeling contests, and even a few bridal shows. She now has three boys of her own, Caden who is 9, Brady who is 17 and graduating high school this year, and Austin who is 28 and has a beautiful family of his own with a daughter who is 4 and a son who is 18 months. While Samantha is living every phase of life at once, she is also the Sales Manager for Centurion Land Title. Whitney Moore's Bio: Whitney Moore has been a photographer for 20+ years, getting hooked on the sound of the shutter on her family's old camera and teaching herself digital photography many, many years later. Episode 5 | Brynn Mueller | The Scout Guide Hamilton County
In this episode, Brynn and I chat about Louisiana, crawfish, Domino's pizza, marriage, being a boy mom, and the gorgeous luxury publication The Scout Guide Hamilton County. We had a blast, and I can't wait for you to learn all about Brynn and The Scout Guide Hamilton County! This is a special milestone episode...episode #5!! Enjoy the show! Brynn's Bio: Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brynn Mueller currently resides in Fishers, Indiana, with her husband, two boys, and pup. After receiving a degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University, Brynn taught in the elementary setting for five years before the opportunity to work for her husband’s family franchise, RPM Pizza, in Indiana presented itself. First settling in Carmel, she began working in Marketing and Community Relations for the family business. Through this position Brynn fell in love with serving the community while helping fundraise, providing monetary and hunger support (who doesn’t love pizza?), and attending community events. While Brynn’s love of community grew through her career with RPM Pizza, her love of all things local began through everyday activities. Moving to a new area can be difficult, and while it was hard to move away from family and friends after almost 30 years, relocating allowed Brynn to discover a new region she’s come to love dearly. Finding the local grocery, boutiques, gym, care providers, etc., was a fun experience and she is proud to live, shop, eat, and retreat in Hamilton County. When the opportunity to become the owner of The Scout Guide Hamilton County presented itself, Brynn’s dreams of one day owning her own business felt like a reality immediately.
