Before I started my show I felt as though I was meant for more but not all that sure on what that more was. I felt as though I should be grateful for everything I had gained back into my life as a result of getting sober. My one roadblock was that I was afraid to let myself shine out of fear I might fear. We are all capable of so much more than we think, we just need to have a little faith and take that first step. Have you taken a big leap of faith before? John Loxley (also known as Ren Koi) is a certified Life Coach, Author and Host of the Life in Recovery Podcast. As a DJ and music producer, he spent over ten years drinking alcohol and using drugs before starting his recovery journey in 2010 when he hit rock-bottom. From 2013 to 2015, John gained qualifications in counselling, psychotherapy and meditation tuition, then he began writing books about addiction, recovery, mental health issues, trauma and spirituality under his pseudonym Ren Koi (Ren meaning ‘love’ in Japanese and Koi being the symbol of courage in Buddhism while also being associated with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose in Eastern cultures). John has since self-published five books and his sixth book, All Is One: The Science and Spirituality of Consciousness will be published by John Hunt Publishing on their O-Books imprint in 2021. Working in the substance misuse field as a Counsellor since 2014 and a Team Leader since 2017, John continues to carry the message of recovery to still-suffering alcoholics and addicts. Trauma used to cause me to pick up a drink. This allowed me to now have to deal with it. Today I no longer feel the need to pick up a drink anytime life goes sideways and trust me it does. As I navigate in this new journey I'm on I feel as though I continue to go through traumatic events that I one time I couldn't handle. I drank because of my inability to handle my emotions. Drugs and alcohol became my solution to numbing everything out. When I first got sober and learned that I actually was allowed to feel these emotions the flood gates opened! For so long I have fallen into the diet trap. This started in my addiction and followed me right along into sobriety. What sets us apart when it comes to achieving success? In this episode, I discuss the meaning of success and how that looks different for all of us. Danny Shelton is someone who has been in long-term recovery from alcohol and drugs since 9/16/2017. As everyone can imagine there are some pretty sad stories involved with long-term drug addiction. He won’t go into too many details right now but there are years of homelessness, years of jail time among other things. The important part of this story he loves to share. After his fourteenth stint in treatment, He finally found a healthy outlet. It was health and fitness. As he was working on my relationship with a higher power and doing fearless and searching moral inventory he was also developing a passion for lifting and powerlifting. It wasn’t long before he knew he needed to incorporate nutrition if he really wanted to amplify his goals so he went and got his first nutrition certification and level 1 Strong First Certification. It wasn’t long before people started asking him for help with their training programs and their nutrition. Chris Nell casually jokes that he is 20 years old with 8 years of life experience. He is a multi-platform entertainer and a 2 year recovering alcoholic and drug addict. Entertainment used to be what he lives for, and even though it is his passion, sobriety has become his life. Since 2020, God has led him on a path of education and healing among people whom he never thought to meet and it has kept him grounded to remain on the straight and narrow to work his steps and to serve others through the gifts and talents his been gifted.
