Succotash Epi353: Our 12th Anniversary Show!
We've been teasing it for months but it's finally here: Our 12th anniversary episode of doing Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast! I'm going to keep this blog piece tight and sweet - and urge you to avail yourself of the actual episode, which you can find at your favorite download location OR at our homesite, http://SuccotashShow.com. This episode — our last before embarking on a shortish hiatus — is double-hosted, featuring Marc Hershon and Tyson Saner. We talk about the shows' origins, its evolution during the Age of Soundcasting, and a number of the personalities we've met along the way. One of those personalities joins us as our Special Guest for this 12th year blowout and that's friend of Succotash and friend in real life, Travis Clark! He jumped into this madness the same time we did and, as part of that vaunted fraternity, weighs in with his own observations and opinions. In the style of our earliest days' shows, this installment is a bit longer than our fare these days, clocking in at about an hour and 15 minutes. In addition to our three-way conversation, we have a number of congratulatory messages from friends and past guests of the show to share with you, from Dana Carvey, Jason "Jabs" McNamara, Hunter Block, Dean Haglund & Phil Leirness of Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Matt Knudsen, Davian Dent, Kat Sorens & Dom Risk of Strange Times Podcast, and Stu Buckland of The Angry Chimp and too many other soundcasts to name here. In addition, we have an ad from our fake sponsor Henderson's Pants and we revisit a succotash recipe prepared by Chef Eddie Vedder. Thanks, as always, to producer/engineers Joe Paulino and our booth announcer, Bill Heywatt! All in all, it's quite a shindig to celebrate our dozen years in this crazy business. Jump in and have fun! And we'll hopefully be back with some fresh version of Succotash in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for listening! — Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi352: Last Clips Before Hiatus

Succotash Epi352: Last Clips Before Hiatus
Can you feel it, listener? I can. I can feel it. The warm, sultry breeze of our impending Succotash hiatus is gently wafting around the next bend in our feed. I’m your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon and welcome to Episode 352, which I’m calling “Last Clips Before Hiatus” because, well, it’s our second-to-last episode before we take a break BUT the last one in which we’ll be featuring clips. I’ll tell you more about what our LAST show before jump the tracks is going to be like toward this end of this blog entry but, for now, let’s share this time together as just another in the long lines of Succotash episodes where we feature clips from other comedy soundcasts across the internet.   Before I get to what I have in store for you, let’s recall what Epi351, Tyson Saner’s final solo hosting episode before the break, was like last week. His was the first episode to officially enter our 12th year of soundcasting. We started in April of 2011 so Tyson got the glory and the honor of being the first of us to break the tape on year 12 with “The Penultimate Pre-Hiatus Show”, which featured clips from comedy soundcasts Holidays After Dark, What Went Wrong, and Bit Weird But Fair Enough (I Guess). Tyson wrapped up that episode with a very sincere thanks and farewell for now and I think you’ll get a great deal out of listening to that installment of the show.   As for me, I’m intending to go out with this show as it was originally conceived: By featuring a collection of clips from soundcasts that we’ve not featured before. Sure, we've occasionally dipped back into the same pool now and again to feature some faves – but our overall design and intent has been to bring you what’s fresh and new, at least our ears and quite possibly yours. Bearing that in mind, I have clips from Literally with Rob Lowe, a new sitcom soundcast called Popcorn For Dinner, and a show from across the Pond in England – a well-regarded standby there called Always Be Comedy. Since this will be our last opportunity to do so for awhile, I’m going to feature an audio essay from comedian and friend of the show Dan St. Paul, from his Slices blog, entitled “Slave to the Machines”.   This lovely cavalcade of clippage is brought to you, as always, by Henderson’s Pants and their new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, a recent introduction designed by our own announcer, Bill Heywatt, for that discriminating boozehound on the go.   As I said, toward the end of this episode I let you know what’s in store for the final-final episode next week, as well as a few wrap-up thoughts from my brain and my heart as we hit our 12th year anniversary.   CLIPS   Literally with Rob Lowe Is there more of a consummate celebrity in the entertainment world today than Rob Lowe? He’s an actor who has created an indelible brand for and of himself, he’s never really had any controversy around him, and he’s basically a Hollywood homegrown talent who’s been around since he was a kid. A few yeas ago he started popping up as a guest on a number of soundcasts and it wasn’t long until he pulled the cloak off of Literally, the show he hosts every week, mostly talking to friends that he pulls right out of his own cell phone. He recently talk with Levar Burton, famous for playing Geordi LaForge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Before that, he broke through as Kunta Kinte, a young slave on the Roots miniseries. And he talks a bit about both those experiences in this clip.   Popcorn For Dinner This next entry is brand new. It’s only been out for about 8 or 9 weeks at this point, which means its first season is coming to a close and you can binge it. Because it’s one of the first full-on soundcast situation comedies that I’ve heard. Popcorn for Dinner is, first of all, produced by one of my favorite production outfits on the planet, which is Kelly&Kelly out of Vancouver, Canada. We’ve featured other shows from them before, including This Sounds Serious and Dexter Guff is Smarter Than You. This new offering is largely written and created by comedian Maddy Kelly – no relation to Pat Kelly or Chris Kelly, who ARE related, but maybe it helps to have them set a show up if your last name IS Kelly. It features former Nickelodean star Ciara Bravo as the narrator, and stars Maddy Kelly, Charlie Foster, Jillian Ebanks and Ben Fawcett as four friends in their early 20s as they try to make it on their own, despite the fact that none of them know what that looks like...at all. It’s got all the tropes that make classic sitcoms identifiable including a laugh track. It’s meta, it’s corny, it’s funny and – after I listened to the first three episodes, I was pretty much hooked. The clip I have for you is from Episode 6 and I picked the very opening of the show so you can easily pick up on the vibe – they have the opening teaser scene, the set-up for the episode and your get to hear what the main characters each sound like.     Always Be Comedy I’m not sure how long Always Be Comedy has been cranking out episode in Britain but, given their list of guests, it’s been going awhile. Hosted by comics James Gill and Tim Lewis, they invite other comedians in to chat and to curate their dream gig – o talk about all the elements that they would bring together to make a dynamite boffo show. This clip doesn’t quite get to that part of the hosts’ chat with guest, England comedy legend Stewart Lee, which is well worth strapping in for given his experience. Instead, Stewart waxes on a bit about some of his contemporary veteran comedians.   Dan St. Paul: Slave to the Machines Which brings us to the end of our featured clips this week and right up to the doorstep of comedian and friend of the show Dan St. Paul. He’s been writing these humorous essays for his “Slices” blog on Substack for a while now, and I had him record a few and then added some music and effects to them. That was impetus enough for Dan to turn to his pal Jimmy Goings and really get into producing them. Here’s his latest, entitled “Slave to the Machines”.   That is going to do it for this final solo episode before our Succotash hiatus begins. As I teased at the top of the show, I can let you know that next week, for our 12th Anniversary Show, Tyson Saner and I will be joining forces to celebrate the blessed event. Joining us will be longtime friend of the show who we first met in Episode 36 back in the Fall of 2012, Travis Clark. We’ll look back and reminisce not just about Succotash but also about soundcasting and how far it come since we first fired up the mics in 2011. That’s next week, in this very same feed, so don’t miss it!   As for me, I am sometime startled to wake up and discover this Succotash thing has been going as long as it has. I’ve made a lot of friends, literally around the globe, through the network of soundcasters out there. I think one of the things that we’ll do as we sail into our 12th year is that I may just have to stop beating the drum to call these things soundcasts instead of podcasts. We gave it a valiant effort. I don’t think anyone would deny us that. We’ll see.   I have to thank Joe Paulino, first and foremost, which helped me breathe life into this concept through the auspices of Studio P, his “home of the hit” in Sausalito, California. And for introducing us to Bill Heywatt, our erstwhile and often tanked booth announcer. Scott Carvey, one of Dana Carvey’s brothers, created our theme music from me sending him a jazz tune I liked and doing his own interpretation of the concept so we could have some music free and clear. Kenny Durgis is our booth assistant who, frankly doesn’t do much more than complain but we gotta acknowledge the little guy.   More than anyone connected to the show, my heartfelt and deep gratitude goes to Tyson Saner, who went from contributing a few odd clips now and again to becoming the show’s Associate Producer to full-blown host, slipping into the Big Chair for several years while it stepped into the background as Executive Producer and got to take a big breather.   I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my wife, the lovely and talented Debra Hershon. While she’s never spent a moment hanging around this show, if not for her support and giving me the space to create and shave time off of our personal time – sometimes on while on vacation and sometimes even urging me to head to LA or shows in San Francisco so I could get interviews and such, this show certainly wouldn’t have happened.   Finally, of course, there’s you. Our listener. Whether this is the very first time you’ve filled your ears with Succotash or if you’ve been with us for every one of the 352 episodes we’ve dropped, this has always been intended for you. As a wayfinding tool to help you hack through the soundcast wilderness to find fun, new shows to listen to. And whether it was from those heady early days when we actually would show up on the front page of Apple’s downloads or, more often bouncing along with just blips on the download radar, we know that you’ve been out there putting up with our audio shenanigans. So thank you, thank you, thank you.   We’ll be here next year with that 12th anniversary show. And then Tyson, Bill, Joe, and I are going to take a little break. Catch our breaths and figure out how and when we’ll return. This show maybe exactly like you hear it today. Or we may change up the format and try some different things. Hang in there and we’ll let you know what’s what.   And in the meantime, if in the next week or so you have someone tap you on the shoulder while you’re working out in the gym and they ask what you’re listening to on your earbuds, won’t you please pass the Succotash?   — Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi351 - The Penultimate Pre-Hiatus Show

Succotash Epi351 - The Penultimate Pre-Hiatus Show
Saluton, estas mi, Tyson Saner, and I welcome you heartily to this 351st episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, which just so happens to be the second-to-last episode of Succotash before our 12-year anniverary special, which will then be swiftly followed by a well-deserved hiatus. If you are a 1st time listener, this show typically features clips from other soundcasts from around the world and has for almost 12 years. The entire archive of episodes past can be found over at www.succotash.com for the time being, so if you end up enjoying this program and you'd like to share it with others, send them there or pretty much anywhere else you can listen to soundcasts, which are also called podcasts most everywhere else other than here on Succotash. Last week in Episode #350, show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon brought you a "Chats" episode that featured conversation with, and fascinating stories from Shane Elliot of the sketch comedy group from North Hollywood called Fries On The Side that Mr. Hershon had also been involved with. It's a fascinating and funny chat that you should check out at your earliest convenience. In this, the last episode I'm producing before our aforementioned hiatus, I have brought you some clips to listen to from the soundcasts Holidays After Dark, What Went Wrong, and Bit Weird But Fair Enough (I Guess).  I'll be rounding out the show with 2 clips from the Strange Times Show, the hosts of which just celebrated 10 of their own years in soundcasting. The episode clipped for this purpose is #462, titled "Ten Bloody Years". Many soundcasters sent in their congratulations in audio form, so I've decided to include the one I sent, and the one Marc sent. Those will be played at various points in this program. I'm even throwing in a classic Henderson's Pants ad into this episode just for kicks. It's one of the oldest ones I think…If the numerical system it came with is to be believed.  Well, the show wasn't going to finish writing or producing itself, so I had to get into it. And now it's time for you to do the same… CLIPS Holidays After Dark This is directly from the show description for  Holidays After Dark: "It's a year-round soundcast which explores the strange, unusual, and dark sides of the holidays while also paying tribute to the lighthearted festivities we all know and love!" Featuring host Kristin Seering, our clip is from show from March 28th, 2023 - Easter 2023: Tale of a Homicidal Hare. In this episode, Holidays After Dark explains the history behind how the Easter Bunny came to be and tries to determine if the story of the Bunny Man Killer is real or simply an urban legend. The clip I've selected is from somewhere in the middle. Enjoy.  What Went Wrong From Sad Boom Media, What Went Wrong covers Hollywood’s most notoriously disastrous movie productions, digging into the behind-the-scenes insanity of everything from massive flops to record breaking blockbusters. The clip is from their episode of April 3rd, 2023: "Gone With The Wind". Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, and Hattie McDaniel may star in 1939’s Gone With the Wind, but this was David O. Selznick’s dumpster fire. Join hosts Chris Winterbauer and Lizzie Bassett as they break down a truly disastrous production featuring 15+ writers, 3+ directors, an amphetamine-fueled producer, and racism galore - both onscreen and off. Bit Weird but Fair Enough (I Guess)From Down Under, under The Angry Chimp banner, host Stuart Buckland and guests look at some of the weird stuff going on in this crazy, crazy world. Our clip, from way back on the 1st of February, 2021, is from a show entitled "God or Demon?" And it features not one but two Friends of Succotash. In addition to Mr. Buckland, his guest this episode was British expat in South Korea Samantha Pett, joining Stu to examine weirdness surrounding cats, exams, toast and processed meat. (Sam was formerly a co-host of The Strange Times Show for a not-insubstantial amount of episodes, and a podcaster in her own right with programs such as The Kimchi Chronicles and Anarchy Audi". Keeping with the theme of including Strange Times Show content in this episode, and also wanting to feature Mr. Buckland's relatively recently established soundcast, I was pleased to be able to get both of them in one episode. And there it went…my last solo episode of Succotash before our hiatus. What an amazing ride this has been. It's really hard to wrap my head around the passage of time it seems. I don't mean to say that I don't know what it is, although I don't know what it is more than someone who studies that sort of thing might. Or might claim to…That's what people who study that sort of thing say, right?  "I know what time is..", in casual conversation. Or perhaps sitting by themselves in the middle of a café, working through what they imagine a conversation of that nature would be like, ultimately culminating in an unscheduled "outside voice" moment.  No, I don't mean to say that I don't know what it is…although I don't. It happens, I witness it, it continues to happen, and I attempt to fill it with variety and relative happiness…and music. I can't forget the music. Coming up next, and also LAST for…uh, well…let's just say that I'm not specifically sure how long it will be before we reemerge with something…But my understanding is that that is the plan…there's one of those "that that"'s again. Is that a peculiarity of the English language?  I suppose I could look it up, but I'm not going to do that right now. I'm going to be working on other things in the meantime, and you will be able to find those things over at www.tysonsaner.com as well as an archive full of  stuff I've already done as of this recording. Music, Gaming Videos, A Redbubble store…stuff like that…and who knows what else?  I'm not 100% sure, but if I needed to be, I would never create anything…and there will be plenty of time for inactivity…um…let's just say…later?   Before I go, I need to remember to say "Thank You" to Marc Hershon and Joe Paulino for making me feel like a valuable contributor to something for the last 10 years of my life. It's a very specific thing to say "thank you" for, I know, but It's a very specific sort of gratitude I feel to those who would include me in their creative endeavors. I do not, and hopefully never will, take that sort of thing lightly…. …and now, I have to make the awkward transition into actually saying "Good Bye"…so I will end by saying  "Thank You" to my parents and my wife for being supportive of me in many ways including keeping me alive for the entirety of this experience I call "life" so far. I hope I didn't make it more difficult than it had to be. #Goalz  Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, and when you are out there in the world, should you seek out, or perhaps stumble across our archive during our absence, and you got something out of it that can only be expressed by sharing it with others in some form or another, for example sending them to www.succotashshow.com , then we will experience gratitude for you, for having done so. It's what we dream about happening when we utter the final words of every episode, which are please pass the Succotash… — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi350 — Special Guest: Shane Elliott

Succotash Epi350 — Special Guest: Shane Elliott
Hello, friend! Marc Hershon here for yet another edition – the 350th installment, in fact – of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Later this month we’ll be celebrating hitting our 12th Anniversary of bringing you clips from (mostly) comedy soundcasts and interviews with some of those soundcasters, some comedians, and some other showbiz folk, as our esteemed booth announcer, Bill Heywatt, is fond of saying. That anniversary show will be fun. It will be me and my switching-off-with-me-every-other-week co-host Tyson Saner on the show together, along with a special guest surprise! That show is going to drop on Tuesday, April 25th, so mark your calendars! Speaking of Tyson, if you missed last week’s episode 349, you missed his special “One For the Kids” installment, featuring slips from Wow in the World, TDR Now Travel Podcast, and Story Pirates! With a lot of kids on Spring break this week or next, depending on your school district, grab that episode and see if there isn’t a show or two in that bunch that might be some good road trip filler if you’re heading out with the ankle biters. I don’t have clips for you this week but, instead, it’s a Succotash Chats episode featuring my visit with an old friend of mine who doesn’t have a podcast. Shane Elliott headed up a sketch comedy group in North Hollywood called Fries On The Side that I got involved with and we get into that quite a bit. He acted in TV and movies and commercials for quite a while but then was also very much into computers and technology and programming and, well, we talk about how he made the choice move away from the Hollywood “thing.” This episode is brought by our long-running sponsor, Henderson’s Pants and, because they don’t pay us nuthin’, when they told us they were going to be advertising their new Artificial Intelligence Trousers, we figured we’ve lost enough money with this non-paying turkey of a sponsor so we’ve created the first Henderson’s Pants ad completely put together by AI. The script was written by ChatGPT, the AI version of Bill Heywatt reading was provided by the NaturalReading app, and some 8-bit computer music by Dream Protocol. Then we smooshed all together and – voíla! – history was made. I appreciate our guest Shane Elliott for jumping in here at the tail end of our 11th year in the soundcasting game! You can follow Shane on Twitter at Twitter.com/Shane_Elliott and you can still see a few of the old Fries on the Side videos up on YouTube at http://YouTube.com/friesontheside. Just like that, we’re out of here! Check back in next week for Episode 351 with Tyson Saner back in the drivers seat. And remember our 12th Anniversary show is destined to drop on Tuesday April 25th. Easter’s coming up this weekend so if you’re sitting around, stuffing your face, and someone asks if you’ve heard anything good lately, won’t you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi349: One For The Kids

Succotash Epi349: One For The Kids
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast! Have you listened to us before? If so, then welcome back! We're clocking in at #349 this week and the duties of finding soundcast clips falls on me. Did you happen to hear last week's episode titled "A Spring Bouquet of Clips" ? It was Epi348 and it featured a trio of clips from the soundcasts FOGO, Tell Me About It, and The Best Show. In addition, that episode featured another drop-in from comedian Dan St. Paul with a selection from his "Slices" blog, and that one was called “The Thai That Unbinds”. It was a fun episode, and I invite you to check it out at your earliest convenience. (I almost forgot to mention that episode was hosted by Marc Hershon, who is the show creator, and executive producer. We've been sharing hosting hosting duties on a more-or-less every-other-weekly basis since episode #201 from May 5th, 2020. That episode was the first episode of the Succotash Shut-In" period of this soundcast, AND the first episode back from our first hiatus, which lasted all of about 2 weeks. I bring up the hiatus in case you hadn't heard episode #348 yet, because it was, in fact, announced at the end of that episode, that Succotash is going on another hiatus soon. There's still a few episodes left until that happens tho, and this is one of them. Then, after we hit our anniversary in April of this year, which is 2023 for those living in the future beyond 2023, assuming the future IS a thing when you are listening…) But importantly, this week, I've got clips for you from the soundcasts Wow in the World, TDR Now Travel Podcast, and Story Pirates.  Two of those soundcasts, specifically Wow in the World" and Story Pirates" were suggested by a list I found in a Good Housekeeping article from March 25th of 2020 titled "21 Entertaining Podcasts for Kids of All Ages". Meanwhile, TDR Now Travel is a family-friendly soundcast that I found thru being a frequent viewer of the YouTube channel "TDR Explorer"… which is also pretty family friendly… but more on that later. So, basically, that's why this episode is entitled "One for the Kids". CLIPS Wow in the World The #1 podcast for kids and their grown-ups. Hosts Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz share stories about the latest news in science, technology, and innovation. Stories that give kids hope, agency and make us all say "WOW"! New episodes drop every Monday for free. Our featured clip is from just last week - March 20th, 2023 - entitled "Another Prehistoric Mystery". What really happened to the ichthyosaurs? Detective Mindy and Junior Detective Dennis are determined to find out! Join Mindy, Guy Raz, and the Wow Crew in the mystery of why prehistoric swimming reptile bones were found in the desert. It's the who, what, when, where, how and WOW of ichthyosaurs! TDR Now Travel Podcast A podcast for theme park fans who love to travel! They're the longest-running show dedicated to informing listeners about theme parks in Asia including Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan. Come and travel along with them. I discovered this podcast thru their YouTube videos on "Super Nintendo World" which both my son and I enjoy. This clip is from March 14th, 2023, and is called "Super Nintendo World Differences Japan vs. USA - Episode 278". The hosts, Chris and Patricia, discuss the differences between Super Nintendo World in Japan and the US! From the layout of the land to food to merchandise. They talk about it all! Story PiratesThe award-winning Story Pirates soundcast takes stories written by kids and turns them into sketch comedy and songs. Made up of talented comedians, songwriters, and frequent celebrity guests, the Story Pirates inspire kids to create, bringing laughter to kids and grownups of all ages with hilarious sketches, catchy original songs from all genres, and interviews with the creative geniuses behind the stories… kids! Our clip is from just last week  - March 23rd, 2023 - called "Oh Rats!" And today’s new story, hosted by Lee Overtree and Benjamin Salka and dreamed up by a 7-year-old from New Jersey named Alexandra, explores the never-ending real estate struggles between mice and humans. So there you go, kids… or people who have them who also listen to podcasts… or at least WERE/ARE listening to THIS one… This is the end portion of the episode, where we make our goodbyes and I go off to record the vocal performance you are hearing now, after which I will edit everything that you have heard so far together… and that pretty much sums up the process of what came together as the episode you are nearly done with. For the adults in the room, there is a whole archive of episodes over at www.succotashshow.com, as well as on pretty much all the listening platforms that you can, could, or perhaps are, listening on. That particular archive, which is ours, goes back almost 12 years now. It's a pretty nifty thing, and - as far as I can tell - a fairly rare thing in this medium known as the podcast, which we here at Succotash have been calling "soundcasts" for pretty much the entire run. It's been fun. See you in 2 weeks with something… probably less family friendly … so pretty much a normal episode. Thank you for listening. Go to www.tysonsaner.com to find my links to all the stuff I'm doing including original music, gaming videos, and my Redbubble store. Tune in next week for episode #350, I'm sure it will be a good one! Be decent to each other, and if someone should randomly, or perhaps deliberately ask you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and that make you think of us…please, pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi348: A Spring Bouquet of Clips
23-03-2023
Succotash Epi348: A Spring Bouquet of Clips
Happy Vernal Equinox, Succotashians! I’m your every-other-weekly-host, Marc Hershon, and thanks for plucking Episode 348 out of the soundcastosphere, an episode I’m calling “A Spring Bouquet of Clips” because, well, this show is dropping close to the first day of Spring! Speaking of Spring, something that’s springing up very soon is the 12th anniversary of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Your co-host and mine, Tyson Saner, will be joining me for a celebratory episode where we’ll look back on the show’s dozen years. We’ll have some clips from shows, classic Henderson’s Pants ads, some congratulatory messages, and more! It's still not too late if YOU might want to record a quick message with your thoughts and/or feelings on our 12th anniversary! We’d love to play it on the big celebration show! You can call it in, to our Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at (818) 921-7212 OR record it and upload the .wav or MP3 file to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash! The aforementioned Mr. Saner was here last week, hosting Episode 347, entitled “Hollywood Adjacent”, and he featured clips from such soundcastery as How Did This Get Made, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, and Nooner Podcast! I’m not sure where you get your servings of Succotash these days, but know that you can always get it fresh from a bazillion soundcast distribution points on the internet and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. My Spring Bouquet of Clips for you for this episode includes FOGO, Tell Me About It, and The Best Show. In addition, I have another drop-in from comedian Dan St. Paul with a selection from his Slices blog, this one called “The Thai That Unbinds”. At some point during the proceedings, we’ll be rudely interrupted by our booth announcer, Bill Heywatt, and an unimportant message from our free-loading, free-wheeling sponsor Henderson’s Pants and their new Random Pants, for a truly captive-ating fit. Oy. Let’s just get started, shall we? CLIPS FOGO: Fear Of Going Outside I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t depend on my own wits and taste when it comes to trying to find out about everything available in the expanding soundcastiverse. I read reviews. I skim “20 Best Comedy Soundcasts This Year!” lists (although they NEVER use the Soundcast word.) And I get email from PR people. One PR “regular” is Kathryn Musilek from Shark Party Media. And she’s been telling me for a while to check out the FOGO: Fear Of Going Outside soundcast. So I finally did. And it’s terrific! Hosted by Ivy Le, “the most reluctant host ever”, according to the press release. It goes on: “Most nature shows are hosted by reckless white men, but avid indoorswoman Ivy Le is an Asian mom with severe allergies.” I listened to the first couple episodes and it was intriguing to hear the exploits of Ivy as she really wants to try to embrace the great outdoors. In the second season, she’s really pretty much looking at her comfort zone in the rearview mirror. In Epi5 of the new season, with the help of Jesse Griffiths, a renowned chef/hunter, Ivy sets out to butcher an entire hog! Tell Me About ItSuccotash listeners have run across Adal Rifai, the host of this next new show, called Tell Me About It, a couple times. First back in 2015 when we clipped Hello from the Magic Tavern in Epi113, where he plays Chunt the Changeling. And again at the end of 2022, in Epi334 when we snipped Hey Riddle Riddle, in which Adal is the co-host. His new show, Tell Me About It, is couched as a game show, with Adal playing himself as an eccentric billionaire who challenges his guests to talk about, argue about and, eventually, defend a topic or thing they love dearly to try to climb the Most Interesting thing scoreboard against previous and future guests. The questions are absurd-ish, the scoring even more so, none of it made any easier because of Eric Silver, Adal’s butler, who tries to keep things running smoothly. In our clip, the guest is friend of Succotash and one of the creators of San Francisco Sketchfest Janet Varney, who you may know from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and her own soundcast, The JV Club. She’s onboard to shove her interests in minatures up that scoreboard but first, she has to help host Adal understand what miniatures even are…  The Best ShowI’m not sure how, in 12 years of doing this show, we missed clipping the Best Show with Tom Sharpling. It’s not obscure by any means — it was originally a terrestrial radio show — plus I’ve heard of it for years, and have heard Tom Sharpling on other soundcasts. He’s big friends with Marc Maron, too. I guess what finally grabbed me was tht he managed to get an interview with Matt Berry, who I am a huge fan of, and you probably are, too. He’s a British comic and actor, and he’s a regular on the TV series version of What We Do In The Shadows. ‘Nuff said? In this snippet of their convo, Matt talks about having to decide between pursuing music or comedy…or did he? Slices: The Thai That BindsI played one of these essays in my recent Epi346, from comedian Dan St. Paul’s Substack “Slices” blog. He’s back with a tale of his first foray going after a Thai massage. Check it out… Clips. An Essay. And a pants commercial. Who can ask for more? As I’m already a day late dropping this episode, I’ve not got time to dip into the TweetSack this time, but those social handles will keep another couple of weeks. If you’re hurting for more Succotash, Tyson Saner will be back around this corner in less than a week with Episode 349 and then it will be just one or two more shows before our 12th Anniversary show! Thanks so much for listening. And, speaking of listening, if anyone asks you if you’ve heard anything good lately, won’t you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon

Succotash Epi347: Hollywood Adjacent
Saluton estas mi, Tyson Saner, welcoming you to Succotash Episode #347. I will be your host for the duration of this episode as it is my turn to do so. Last week in Epi346, subtitled "Clips Like a Lion", show creator and executive producer of Succotash Marc Hershon brought you a clips episode plus a little something extra. The clips featured in that episode were from the Soundcasts known as Dear Chelsea, The JTrain Podcast, and Two Vegan Idiots. The aformentioned extra took the form of a contribution from comedian Dan St. Paul's "Slices" blog, called "Rebel Without A Phone". It was an entertaining episode that, if you were to want to listen to that as well, you absolutely could on this listening platform, or on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, Podchaser, and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com…this is provided, of course, that you found us somewhere other than those previously mentioned platforms. This week in Epi347 I have clips for you as well, and they are from the soundcasts How Did This Get Made, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, and Nooner Podcast. It's extremely likely that you will also be encountering a classic advertisement from our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants with an oh-so-apropos ad for their "Hooray for Hollywood pants somewhere later in the episode as well. CLIPS How Did This Get Made? We have featured clips from How Did This Get Made and soundcasts featuring those involved with it several times over the last almost 12 years. The most recent time was actually not all that recent though, in fact it was way back at the end of December of 2021 in Episode 284 subtitled "Clip The Halls" which is, of course in our archive were you to want to hear that sooner than later. Featuring hosts Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas, our clip is from February 23rd of this year where the hosts break down, coincidentally (or is it?), the thriller "The Number 23" starring Jim Carrey. They discuss all the bonkers names—from Topsy Kretts to Fingerling to Sirius Leary—the protagonist who hates dogs, Walter Sparrow's sanity, Bud Cort's crazy room, the son's childish mug gift, Danny Huston's villainous vibe, and Chekhov's Saxophone. Plus, they ask "At the beginning is Jim Carrey basically playing Ace Ventura?" And Paul reveals his theory that maybe Walter Sparrow's dog bite gave him rabies. Is Paul right? Crack the code! Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum This soundcast has been featured once before, back in the end of February 2019, in Episode 188, which Marc hosted in my stead while I was quite busy navigating life with my at-the-time newborn son Jareth. (This was back when the episodes typically featured 6 clips each and were not guaranteed to post with the regularity that they have been since around April of 2020 with our Succotash Shut-In phase of this program.)  In case you hadn't heard that episode, or don't know of Inside of You, the show description reads: "I’m Michael Rosenbaum, I’ve spent the better part of the last two decades in and out of film and television - mostly known for playing the bald dude on the show Smallville. I’m the guy that you probably don’t know by name, but when you see my face you might say “oh, that guy from that thing.” I’ve befriended some of the most talented people in the business, but it wasn’t until I started inviting them into my home that I realized, I didn’t really know these people. What started as me having some fun, quickly evolved into something I’ve fallen in love with. What I’ve discovered is that all these people aren’t that different from you and me. They have the same insecurities and flaws that we all deal with every day. In a dark, yet enlightening way…I find a lot of comfort in that. I invite you all to join me while I get inside each of these fascinating people." Our clips hails from September 6th of last year, and features guest Wil Wheaton (Stand By Me, Star Trek: TNG, Big Bang Theory), who shares his brave story of coming to grips with the trauma of his childhood, breaking the cycle so it doesn’t carry on to future generations, and understanding that part of his healing process may lead to a lifetime split from his family. Nooner Really what can be said about Nooner Podcast that hasn't already been? The show started with Dan Etheridge and Marty Yu hosting from Kevin Smith's living room way back in 2011 with their 1st guest Martin Starr. (It's a soundcast that is ALMOST as old as Succotash itself!) Since it started, the show has had some lineup changes whose personalities include, but are not limited to, Stephen Kruger, Bill Watterson, Emily O'Hara (or O'Hare?  I don't know and it is extremely difficult to find information about her, but I did not hallucinate her…) Giselle Nett, John Pirruccello, Cassandra Cardenes, and John Sylvain. These are the most frequent co-hosts. Other folks who co-hosted more than once — and may I remind you that I am going from memory — include Scott Marvel Cassidy and Vivian Martinez.   I have been listening to and contributing to the show in some way or another since the beginning, including music and live #tumblr ing which becomes harder to explain as time goes by. They are a nice group of people who have been very morally and creatively supportive of me over the years, so featuring them occasionally in place of perhaps a soundcast that I've never heard before seems reasonable to me. With that in mind, this clip is from the end of January this year, Ep: "Babylon Is the Worst First Date". Hosts Marty and John talk nonsense, but just fast forward to hear the funny MIRP, Cassandra, talk about why weddings are bullshit and why Babylon is like disappointing sex. And that brings us more-or-less neatly to the end of this episode of "Succotash". I do hope you found something interesting and/or enjoyable in the last half hour or so of content. It's Oscar day as I write this, and will likely be Oscar night as I am recording this. I'm rooting for "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" to win best picture. It's been nominated for 11 Oscars, and I hope they win nearly all of them. I say "Nearly" because one of the categories they've been nominated for is "Best Song", and although I'm sure that the Son Lux/Mitski/David Byrne song "This is a life" from E2A2O is perfectly fine, "Naatu Naatu" from "RRR" is also nominated, and that song is AWESOME. To be fair, I haven't listened to "This is a life" that closely…certainly not to the degree that I've heard "Naatu Naatu"…(sigh)…ok, I will be right back, I'm going to give the E2A2O song a closer listen. (pause)  Ok, I have listened to it closely. I absolutely grok it.…But I still really want "Naatu Naatu" to win. At the very least, I hope to enjoy seeing the Oscar performance of "Naatu Naatu" later on YouTube. Assuming that there is an Oscar performance of "Naatu Naatu" planned…and why wouldn't there be?  As I mentioned before, it is AWESOME.   And so are you, for listening. The next episode will be hosted by Mr. Hershon, and it will most likely be numbered #348. We are sailing along to our 12 year anniversary of this show, and will see you when we get there, one way or another. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, and should you be out there in the world with thoughts about anything you heard in this episode, and you feel any reason to share that information with other people, we'd appreciate that a great deal. It's what we mean when we ask you to PLEASE…Pass The Succotash. — Tyson Saner

Succotash Epi346: Clips Like a Lion
Can you believe it? We’re here again. You and I, I mean. I am, as our booth announcer Bill Heywatt just intoned, your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon. And you’re, obviously, you. And this IS Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Episode 346, to be exact. And, if this is your first visit, well, then, you know pretty much what you need to know.  We’re just about a month away from celebrating this soundcast’s 12th anniversary. TWELVE years! Can you imagine? When Succotash started, the dodo birds were practically still alive, walking the still-cooling surface of the primordial Earth, stalking their favorite prey: the sabretooth tigers. My esteemed co-host, Tyson Saner, and I were conferring this past weekend about our upcoming show to commemorate the 12 years of Succotash and what we’re going to do to celebrate. Some past guests and friends of the show are recording some salutations for us. AND we’ve discussed plans for what changes the next season, our SIXTH season, might bring. (If, by the way, YOU would like to record a quick message with your thoughts and/or feelings on our 12th anniversary, we would love to get it and play on our big celebration show! You can call it in, to our Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at (818) 921-7212 OR record it and upload the .wav or MP3 file to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash!) Speaking of Tyson Saner, last week in this very same feed he hosted Episode 345 and brought along his special guest, comedian Josh Barnes. It was an interesting and funny chat with one of the members of the fairly exclusive circle of Extreme Northern California comics, based in Humboldt County. Check it out on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, Podchaser, and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. For this week’s episode, entitled “Clips Like a Lion”, we get back to our more traditional clips-from-comedy-soundcasts formula, with a little extra treat. I’ve got snippets from the shows Dear Chelsea, The JTrain Podcast, and Two Vegan Idiots. Plus a contribution from comedian Dan St. Paul’s Slices blog, called “Rebel Without A Phone”. And we are sponsored by our long-time, non-paying client Henderson’s Pants and their just-in-time-for-tax-season Accountant’s Pants. That’s pretty much the whole preamble I had in mind for this week’s show. Let’s get to the clips… CLIPS Dear ChelseaWe first check in with comedian, author, and long-running TV show host Chelsea Handler and her soundcast Dear Chelsea. This is a weekly advice show where Chelsea and what are usually her celebrity guests answer questions from listeners to the soundcast. Usually in a funny way but sometimes she can dig into the topic at hand and real. I clipped a recent episode where she had two guests on, and whose main claim to fame is that they are Chelsea’s sisters, Shoshanna and Simone. In this clip they talk about how sister Simone went from working in the healthcare industry to becoming a free-range ear piercer. Two Vegan IdiotsThe title of the next show we clipped tells you pretty much all you need to know. Two Vegan Idiots is a soundcast features a pair of British comedians, Carl Donnelly and Julian Deane, usually interviewing a comedian guest each episode. Or, as the show description reads, “Carl tries to interview them while Julian tries to get them cancelled.” The vegan angle is true – they’re both meatless eaters, and tend to get a lot of ink from the vegan press – but it’s not the focus for their shows, since a lot of their guests seem to be omnivores. Their Epi186 featured returning guest Eleanor Conway, and this snippet has them into the topics of orgasms and also doing interviews on the street, which Eleanor famously does on British television.  The JTrain PodcastJared Freid is a New York-based comedian whose acts focuses a lot on dating and relationships. His soundcast, The JTrain Podcast, shares a similar focus, where he and his comedian guests answer listener emails and get into conversation about the dating life and other things, too. Our clip hails from last month and an episode entitled “Would You Expose A Cheater?” with guest Ashley Hamilton, co-host of the Celebrity Memoirs soundcast, which is what they’re kicking around in this clip.  Slices: Rebel Without A PhoneThat’s it for our clips this episode but we’ve got a treat in store. Regular listeners to this show may remember that I featured several comedy blog-pieces-turned-audio-musings from comedian and friend of the show Dan St. Paul. These were contributions to his regular blog Slices, and I’d played around by adding a music bed and some sound effects. Dan picked up the ball and is now doing that himself with the aid of Jimmy Goings. So we’ll keep featuring them when they become available. This week I have one of his latest essays called Rebel Without A Phone. You can check Dan St. Paul and his essays out at danstpaul.substack.com, as well as at comedy venues around the San Francisco Bay Area where he’s been headlining for years. That’s going to do it for our regularly scheduled content for this episode. Remember that Tyson Saner will be here next week with Episode 347 for you. He and I are planning the big upcoming 12th anniversary show, and don’t be shy about sending in a note or a recorded salutation for the occasion. You can even do it via Twitter or Instagram by using our @SuccotashShow handle! In the meantime, If you’re ever lying in the sand on a beach on a tropical island, and some bully kicks sand in your face to get your attention because you’ve got your earbuds in, and he asks, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won’t you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon

Succotash Epi345 — Special Guest: Josh Barnes
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this "Chats" episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, now in the last vestiges of its 11th year bringing you now 345 episodes including this one. Yes, this is Episode 345, which means that the last episode that dropped into our stream was episode 344 and THAT episode was also a Chats episode, hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, with whom I share hosting duties with on an every-other-weekly basis. In Epi344, Mr. Hershon's guest was Josh Gilliland of The Legal Geeks soundcast, which, on their main webpage over at TheLegalGeeks.com is described as "The Legal Geeks, Jessica Mederson and Joshua Gilliland, are proud to be attorneys and geeks. Please enjoy their podcasts discussing everything from eDiscovery to Sci Fi and a lawyer's point of view on a universe of Geek culture." Mr. Hershon and Mr. Gilliland had a pretty interesting discussion in that episode that I listened to about 75-80 percent of before I had to stop listening due to some Mandalorian spoilers that I really wish I hadn't heard but, oh well, that's going to happen occasionally when people discuss pop culture. This week, as previously stated, is a "Chats" episode that features a fun conversation I had with comedian and musician Josh Barnes. We discuss many things including children's entertainment, fatherhood, musicals, horror movies, and conspiracy videos amongst other things including, but not limited to, Josh's first comedy special Petty Since '83, which you can find in audio form over at http://joshbarnescomedy.bandcamp.com or you can watch it up at http://watch.nextupcomedy.com Also catch his 2nd comedy special which I attended the filming of in late January of 2023 at the Savage Henry Comedy Club (whose large cast of performers and participants I have attempted to feature in various capacities over the recent years, here and there when I could, in clip form when those personalities have soundcasts.) My intention is to interview as many of the local comedians as I can in the coming year, and perhaps get back on stage myself, but that's just between you and me. I really appreciate Mr. Barnes taking the time, as his schedule is pretty full. This week's show is sponsored by our longtime, freeloading, FAKE sponsor Henderson's Pants and their stunning new Bivouac Briefs.  Warning: This interview contains spoilers for a few movies, including Lady in the Water, The Village, Signs, and Cabin Fever, as well as Muppets from Space.  Our next episode is 346 which will be helmed by Marc Hershon and I have no idea what he has in store for you...aside from the assumption that it will either be a "Clips" episode or a "Chats" episode... but even that can change. By the time you hear this, I will have had my birthday already, and likely I will have already begun my hunt for clips, or perhaps another chat, that I will present to you in about 2 weeks from then...for Episode 347. ...and that's the best prediction I can make for the near future. Will there be new episodes as we make our way to our 12 year mark this coming April?  Most likely. Will we have an actual sponsor by then?  Who can say? Will I be galloping toward 50?  With any luck. At any rate, you can go to www.tysonsaner.com to find easily clickable links to my other content including Anti Social Show, an entirely other soundcast I co-host with Hunter Block, "Tyson Saner: Gamer" a video podcast that I make for my YouTube channel, and some of the music that I've been making over the years. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, consider leavin a 5-star review of our program if you enjoy any part of what we provide for you at no additional cost to you, and...should someone happen to inquire, perhaps completely randomly, if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and this program leaps to the forefront of your consciouness, mentioning us in that moment really helps us out. It's what we mean when we gently remind you to please pass the Succotash.  — Tyson Saner

Succotash Epi344 — Special Guest: Josh Gilliland
Howdy, soundcast aficionados! You must be a fan of soundcasts if you’re dropping in for yet another installment of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Because that’s all we do around here is pay homage to soundcasts. We play clips from 'em, we talk about ‘em, and sometimes we talk to the people who are ON the soundcasts, like today. But good deary me, I am getting ahead of myself. Myself being one Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host of Succotash, and this is Episode 344. We’re about 5 weeks away from hitting our 12 year anniversary of this show — can you feel the excitement, the electricity, in the air? Of course you can.  If you’d like to send me and co-host Tyson Saner a little congratulations or salutations message in the next couple of weeks so we can include in our 12th Anniversary Episode, we encourage that! The easiest way would probably be to kick out something in your socials to the attention of @SuccotashShow. You could also email us at either m-a-r-c@SuccotashShow.com or t-y-s-o-n@SuccotashShow.com. You can call into our Succotash and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline at (818) 921-7212 and leave us a voice mail message. Or if you’re feeling particularly production-y, you can record something and upload it as an MP3 file to http://Hightail.com/u/Succotash. We’ll play or read everything that comes in. We haven’t set the actual date in April yet, but as long as your submission reaches us by the beginning of April, it’s in! Let’s get back to the here and now. Or, rather, the last week and now. Tyson hosted Episode 343 and featured a Valentine’s Day slate of three soundcast clips, including Life is Short with Justin Long, CineNation, and High Low with Emrata. You can still avail yourself of those delectable tidbits wherever you normally get your soundcasts from or pop over to our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, which is also the home for our nearly 12 years of episode archives. Which brings us up to present day and what I have in store for you, which is a guest. It’s likely no surprise if you were able to read the title for his week’s installment: Succcotash Epi344 w/Special Guest Josh Gilliland. A soundcaster and actual practicing attorney, Josh hosts The Legal Geeks soundcast, where he and Jessica Mederson, along with a rotating cast of other legal eagles tackle the important fictional cases of our time. Josh was a guest at one of our rare live shows, about 5 years back when we appeared as part of San Francisco Sketchfest. And he’s the brother of another friend of the show and past guest, Gabriel Diani. He’s also a Skipper in the Sea Scouts which is a kind of like Boy or Girl Scouts on the water, and we’ll talk about that as well.  This episode is sponsored by our long-running, long FAKE sponsor Henderson’s Pants and their bright n’ shiny Pedestrian Pants! Thanks to Josh for dropping by, You can hear a lot more of him over at The Legal Geeks soundcast and you can read a lot more by him on his blog, Bow Tie Law. Tyson Saner will be back in this very same soundcast feed next week with Episode 345 and until then, if someone you know is itching to find something new to listen to and a few choice samples might help them find their way, won’t you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi343: A Valentine's Day Sampler of Clips

Succotash Epi343: A Valentine's Day Sampler of Clips
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Episode 343 of Succotash, The Comedy Soundast Soundcast! Established 2011 with regular weekly updates since 2020. We've been able to do that here at Succotash mostly due to the fact that I share every-other-weekly hosting duties with show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon who brought you clips last week in episode 342, from the soundcasts Extra Nuggets, Hollywood Gold, The Downside, and also a recent episode of Monster Party on which Mr. Hershon was a guest. You can find last week's episode along with our entire archive of episodes over at www.succotashshow.com or, if you are currently listening to us or have downloaded us from any of the streaming/downloading platforms from which you could do so — namely, places like Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music and many more…uh…that would work as well. This week, I've got clips from the soundcasts known as Life is Short with Justin Long, CineNation and High Low with Emrata. I've also decided to include a classic FAKE advertisement from our longtime FAKE sponsor who does not exist except on paper and in the hearts and minds of listeners. This episode will have posted on Valentine's Day, so I've chosen a special one that…well, you can decide how appropriate it is to the season once you hear it.  CLIPS Life is Short with Justin Long  I clipped this soundcast previously for Epi273 which dropped mid-October back in 2021. From the show's description: "Is it just me or is time flying by? How do we make the most out of our short time here on Earth? That’s what we’re here to find out. I’m Justin Long and I’ve been an actor for most of my life, so I’m used to getting inside the heads of the characters I play. But now that I’m getting older (I’m 43 now, yikes), I want to peek inside the heads of real people to learn how they find meaning in life. I’m also very curious what their favorite snack food is, and what emoji they use most often — ya know, the REALLY important stuff. Every episode I’ll get personal with all kinds of people, from actors to musicians to deep thinkers who fascinate me. My brother, Christian, is on hand each episode to keep me honest, and occasionally remind me about some of the embarrassing things I’ve done over the years. Join us, or if you have more important things to do, that’s okay too — life is short!" I clipped the episode from January 31st, 2023 with Dave Franco (Somebody I Used to KNow)and an emoji, the type of which I will not reveal as it is indicative of a specific bit of information contained within each interview. Sorry for being so cryptic, I try to be spoiler-free in specific types of circumstances involving symbology. TMI? On the show, the guest and Justin talk about their mutual love of cats, how he got into acting and the benefits of working with his wife, Alison Brie. CineNationAs described in Apple Podcast's version of a soundcast's liner notes: "The CineNation soundcast analyzes the histories and tropes of film genres and why we love them." The episode I've clipped is from February 2nd, 2023 - When Harry Met Sally (1989). For Episode 250, show hosts Brandon Sparks and Thomas Horton are starting their Rom-Com series with one of the best of all time. Listen as they discuss how When Harry Met Sally went from a basic idea to a classic of the genre. High Low with EmRataThe show practically introduces itself, when you read its description online: "Hi, I’m EmRata, aka Emily Ratajkowski. Maybe you know me from my work as an actress or model, or maybe you’ve read my bestselling book, "My Body". I’m interested in marrying everything high and low brow by talking pop culture and happenings that may seem frivolous in a way that raises big questions. On this podcast, I’ll be talking everything from politics, philosophy, and feminism to sex, TikTok and relationships." Our clip hails from just a week ago, on February 6, 2023, and features guest Amber Rose, who - according to show notes - rose to prominence through several high profile relationships with famous rappers, but she has a whole lot more to say than gossip and rehash their history. On the show they discuss how she has reclaimed the labels “slut” and “bitch” through her event "Slut Walk", how she’s raising her sons to respect women, classism, feminism and racism, and what she wants to see happen with men (and women!) when it comes to fighting misogyny. And that's where the clips run out, so welcome to the end of this week's episode. Hey, did you hear that a chunk of the sun "came off"? No, really…it did something like that. I only read the news about it today, and the source was a day old, so…we're still here as of one day later. This episode will have posted about three days from now if the usual set of circumstances has occurred and, the following week, Marc will be back with Episode #344 which I believe will be a "Chats" episode with guest Josh Gilliland, if I remember what was said in Epi342 correctly. Y'know…between pandemics and natural disasters happening in this lifetime, at this point in time, I could really use a hug. Also, I just saw Encanto for the first time and that was quite an emotional roller coaster…so, yeah…the hug thing. Maybe you aren't the hugging sort…no worries, you do you. Aside from all of that, the function of this show has alway been to provide the listener with a window into some listening options that they might otherwise never have known they had…So, I hope that I fulfilled that in a way you found interesting in any way, shape, or form, and that, as a result, you might listen again and/or suggest us to others as an option for them to listen to. We would really appreciate that. We do this out of love. So once again, I've been Tyson Saner wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day, asking you consider visiting www.tysonsaner.com, thanking you for listening, imploring you to be decent to each other, and reminding you to please pass the Succotash! — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi342: A February Foursome of Clips

Succotash Epi342: A February Foursome of Clips
Welcome to another installment of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast! This is Episode 342 and, each week, we’re edging ever closer to April 2023, which will mark the 12th Anniversary of this show. I’m your every-other-weekly host, Marc Hershon, and I want to thank everyone who has taken time out to Venmo us donations to help keep this show going! Our grand total since first announcing that we’d be accepting funds through Venmo a couple months back is…zero. Zip. Zilch. Apparently you guys aren’t really fans of commercial-free content — and no, I don’t count our phony Henderson’s Pants ads — so we’ll stop beating the Venmo drum. Instead, this week starts my concerted effort to find this show some REAL paying sponsors. A lot of the shows that we feature clips from have them, so why shouldn’t we? It’s high time that me and our co-host, Tyson Saner, start to see some kind of return for cranking this thing out every week. (So, if you’re interested in sponsoring Succotash, just email our sales team at ads@succotashshow.com.) The aforementioned Tyson was here last week with Epi341, a show entitled “Cartoons, Shakespeare & Tinseltown”, a show that included a trio of clips from The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast, Willy Shakers, and The Hollywood Experience. You can still grab that handful of Succotash from your favorite soundcast distribution points, including Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music, and so many others, not the least of which is our homesite, SuccotashShow.com. That’s also where our archive lives, with over 11 years of clips n’ chats. I myself have a “February Foursome of Clips” in store for you in this episode. We’ll be hearing from Extra Nuggets, Hollywood Gold, and The Downside, as well as from a show that we’ve featured before, one of the hosts is not just a friend-of-Succotash but a close personal friend of mine, and that I have appeared on several times including just last week. It’s Monster Party and we had a great time talking about…well, you’ll hear it when you jack into the 'sode. This week’s installment (until we can find some sponsors with some real money to bring to the table), is brought to you by Henderson’s Pants timely Parka Pants, just the stuff to keep your chilly getaway sticks from snapping off in the cold. CLIPS Monster PartyLet’s get this Succotash party started with what I was just talking about a moment ago – the Monster Party soundcast! The four gents behind this show came up with this idea when they were crashing in a hotel at the San Diego Comic Con a number of years ago. As they partied and got increasingly blotto, their discussion turned into a loud argument about what monster or sci-fi or superhero or action movie, TV show, or comic book was better than the others. Realizing this was a nerd idea sure to get them laid, the fab foursome — Matt Weinhold, Shawn Sheridan, Larry Strothe, and James Gonis — kicked off their show. I’ve had the pleasure of being a guest a number of times and just last week was the latest. Their topic: Superhero Obscura. Namely, digging up some of the most forgotten and unknown comic book heroes ever to don a cape. Since I was the guest of honor, I sliced out a snippet where I talked about the mysterious and forgotten…Captain Marvel! No, not that one. The other one. No, no, the OTHER one. Never mind. You’ll see… Hollywood GoldAt a couple dozen episodes under her belts, the host of the Hollywood Gold soundcast, Daniela Taplin Lundberg — a movie producer in her own right — interviews other producers and filmmakers to help us look under the hood of some of the films we know and love. I grabbed a clip from an episode that dropped last month where she focued on the movie The Big Sick, written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, which was a fantastic, kind-of-surprise hit six years ago. SIX years ago? Yes. 2017. Crazy. Anyway, she caught up with her old friend and the director of the movie, Michael Showalter, to deep dive into how this movie got made. The clippage is about some of the casting of the film and the process of getting it down in the funny, touching, sweet style that he did. Extra NuggetsEven as the soundcast ocean continues to fill with thousands upon thousands of shows, I’m amazed at how inventive so many soundcast creators have gotten at finding that little niche, that undiscovered nugget – if you will – of a subject or fodder for a new soundcast. Nugget is exactly the right word for this next clip, which comes from a relatively new show.  So new, in fact, that they only have about a dozen episodes dropped at this point, going back to October of last year. The hosts are Dan Rubenstein and Adam Amin. Dan’s one of the brains behind the Solid Verbal Media soundcast network, and Adam is a sports announcer with Fox Sports. The hook to their show Extra Nuggets is to take categories from old Jeopardy shows and challenge each other to answer them. But it goes beyond trivia. They only tackle a couple of categories an episode because every answer leads into some extra nuggets of information behind the topic. On a recent drop, one topic was “Historic Planes”. See how much of this stuff you know… The DownsideOur final clip for this episode takes a kind of cynical look at the world around us. Or at least around host Gianmarco Soresi. He’s a comedian and a “lifelong cynic”, according to the show’s description and it seems when he brings in a guest who’s not a stranger to cynicism, like the amazing droll Todd Barry, the level of cynicism goes up exponentially. Here the guys are talking about when Todd started out doing standup back in Miami. Tyson Saner will be here in this same feed next week with Episode 343 and some entertainments for you. So grab yourself some of that. And, if by some chance you’re flying high over American soil, somehow having found yourself attached to a Chinese spy balloon, and an Air Force fighter jet scrambles by and the pilot yells out of the cockpit at Mach 2 “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won’t you please pass him the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

Succotash Epi341: Cartoons, Shakespeare & Tinseltown
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this episode of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, that numbers 341. This is the first episode that I've put together since putting together my Hundredth episode for episode 339. Yes, you heard me correctly, 339. If this is your first time here, I should explain that my hosting duties are shared in a more-or-less every other weekly tradeoff with show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon. Last week for episode 340, Mr. Hershon brought you a "Chats" episode in which was featured special guest, Dr. London Smith of The Jock Doc Podcast. It's a very entertaining episode that you could check out at your earliest convenience by going to our homesite, www.succotashshow.com, where you can find the entire archive of shows going back to March of 2011.…Or, I guess you could just use whatever podcast streaming service you are currently listening to us on and go back a week…that would probably work too. This week in Epi341 I've got clips from the soundcasts known as The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast, Willy Shaker", and The Hollywood Experience. this installment is sponsored by our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants and their Klept-O-Matic Trousers. (If you listened to Epi340 you will have heard a NEW advert from those aformentioned fictional freeloaders…which was quite enjoyable to hear.…So THAT's cool. Anyway, here is the clippage in store this time around… CLIPS The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast Twin animators Tom and Tony Bancroft get together and talk about their Disney Animation past, the present animation business, and the future of animation. Interviews with talented artists, inspirational words, and wild speculation will help you grow as a person - or not. Our clip is from Oct 21st, 2022, and features guest Henry Selick, the director of "A Nightmare Before Christmas" talking with the Bancrofts in HALLOWEEN MONTH! Willy ShakersFrom the show's description: "A soundcast where I talk about how much I love Willy. I hope if you listen you will love Willy too. No, Please get your mind out of the gutter, I mean William Shakespeare. So put the kettle on, grab yourself a cuppa and get your Willy out with me." I've selected a snippet from the first episode, which dropped at the beginning of this year, on January 5th, 2023. It's entitled "Much Ado About Nothing Act One: Good News Everybody!" We join host Billy Armstrong as he introduces us to the cast. The Hollywood Experience I clipped this soundcast originally for Episode 294, titled "Celebrity Adjacent" which dropped a bit over a year ago on March 1st, 2022. The host is actor, producer, and director Adrian Paul, who has over 200 hours of television and more than 35 film credits to his name. He talks with other actors, comic book creators, martial arts masters, showrunners, stunt professionals, and many others who have helped shape some of the most famous action films and TV shows in pop culture history. Joining him is co-host Ethan Dettenmaier, our old friend from Combat Radio. Our clip is from Episode #52 from January 16th, 2023, and features an interview with Claudia Christian (Babylon 5). And that brings Episode 341 almost completely to a close. I do hope you'll find something enjoyable in what I brought to you. It is my goal to provide at least 3 clips for the show I do every 2 weeks and sometimes it is surprisingly difficult to be in the mood to listen to folks I've never heard speak before. Sometimes, I just want to listen to one of my favorite soundcasts and that does become a bit of a tradeoff as far as time is concerned. Also, sometimes I am not in the mood for comedy. Funny thing, that. I love comedy and comedians, but burnout is real. All in all, I do think that listening to various strangers have conversations over the years has essentially made me a better listener. There's not enough space in my brain at the moment to remember if I have pointed that "better listener" thing out on the show before but…if I have…I can only apologize and say that it's just a true thing. I've had a lot of practice listening. Maybe, one day I will listen to YOU talking on a soundcast…and perhaps I will enjoy what I am hearing so much, I will try to find a clip from your soundcast to feature here on Succotas"…assuming that by the time you have your soundcast recorded, edited and published that "Succotash" is still a thing. I don't see why it wouldn't be…it's just that time is a very real thing, and it appears to be nothing if not finite. On that note, tune in next week for Epi342 where I imagine Marc Hershon will have something really neat for you to listen to. Thank you for listening, Be decent to each other, go to www.tysonsaner.com to find links to the rest of the stuff I have put out into the universe, and until I talk at you again please remember that there might be people in your life that would appreciate a suggestion of what to listen to on their own personal journey of soundcast listenership, and if you do think of us as a possible suggestion for them, we will always appreciate it if you could please pass the Succotash… — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi340 with special guest Dr. London Smith

Succotash Epi340 with special guest Dr. London Smith
Howdy do, my beautiful Succotashians! Even if this is your very first time applying our audiciously fragrant soundcast to your earholes, we still regard you as one of us. That’s how inclusive and “woke” Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast is. (In fact, we consider ourselves to be “wuck”, the past tense of “woke”, because we’re so far beyond it…) What am I even saying? There might be an exhaust leak going on right now in my Mobile Studio MX-30, except that this my Mazda EV so that’s not possible. Oh, well. Where are my manners? I’m Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host for this show and you’re listening to Episode 340. And – with no clips featured this time around — this will be our first Succotash Chat of the year! If you missed last week’s installment, then I’ll wait while you go back and grab Epi339 with our delightful and alternating co-host Tyson Saner. T-Bone (a nickname I’ve never called him before) celebrated hosting his 100th Succotash show by cranking out a quartet of tasty clipbits from the shows The Movies That Made Me, Of Mice and Men and Monsters, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, and Sensibly Cynical. You can find it all across the soundcastiverse – from Apple and Google Podcasts and Spotify, to Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, and many, many other distribution points. If all else fails – or maybe try here first – hop over to our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. As for this episode – and isn’t that why we’re all gathered here today? — my special guest is Dr. London Smith. He’s the host of The Jock Doc Podcast, a soundcast we’ve not only featured here before but which I was fortunate and delighted to have been invited to appear on several times. The show shares a little bit of similarity to Comedy Bang Bang, in that London and his producer, Cameron, have guests on who always are portraying interesting and mostly insane characters. My chat with London goes into some interesting territory, and we spend a lot of time discussing the move he’s making in his career choice – away from medicine (he’s actually got bona fide doctor training and practice in his arsenal) and towards acting and comedy. He goes into when he was a “child star”, a title that I think has merit as he was the lead in a movie when he was 12 years old. It's a lengthy chat, so I get right into it, right after a brand new commercial from our longtime, broke-ass sponsor Henderson’s Pants and their new Supply Chain Issue Pants! The main jumping off point for him is at JockDocPodcast.com. The other links for some of the project London mention, like David Diamondhands on Tiktok, William Does Streaming, and Frozen Soul can be found hanging out in the blog entry for this very episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com. That’s going to do it for Epi340. I have to go to the network president’s office and explain why we ran over time this episode – but I think it was worth it, don’t you? While I’m taking the heat for that, why don’t you jot down a reminder to come back to this same feed next week to catch Tyson Saner and Succotash Episode 241? In the meantime, if you find yourself being chased down the street by a vicious dog and you manage to leap to safety through the open window of a passing car, and the startled driver looks down at you in their lap and asks, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won’t you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi339: 4 Clips & Tyson's 100th Show!

Succotash Epi339: 4 Clips & Tyson's 100th Show!
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this episode of Succotash that numbers 339. This is my first fully produced episode for 2023, and I thank you for making this your listening destination for the next more-or-less half-hour of your life. Did you catch Epi338 last week? In it, executive producer and show creator Marc Hershon brought you an episode called "First-of-the-year Foursome" in which he selected for you a quartet of clips from the soundcasts known as SNAFU, The Retrospectors’ Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. Also in that episode a brand new advertisement from "our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt". So that's fun. On a serious note…It was pointed out in that episode that THIS episode of Succotash will be the 100th that I have assembled. Some very nice and thoughtful things were said in that episode regarding my contributions to Succotash over the years and I couldn't be more grateful to be a part of this operation going on 9 years this April. It's nice to be appreciated. This week on Succotash, I have 4 clips for you, from the soundcasts The Movies That Made Me, Of Mice and Men and Monsters, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, and…what's basically a bonus clip from Sensibly Cynical to lead off the proceedings…if that's the correct way to put things. And the whole shootin' match is brought to you by Henderson's Pants working man and woman's favorite: CoverAlls! CLIPS Sensibly Cynical Recently over at the soundcast known as Sensibly Cynical, host Sean Pratten put together a clip show comprised of moments he determined to be the "Best of 2022". I have been fortunate enough to be asked to guest on his program 5 times in recent years, and Sean graciously decided to include a snippet of one of our conversations that took place in 2022. Eventually, we put together a list that was a "Mount Rushmore" of rock music. This clip is from earlier in the conversation. The Movies That Made Me Filmmakers and entertainers discuss the movies that inspired them. Hosted by Oscar nominated screenwriter and Trailers From Hell guru Josh Olson and fearless leader himself, director Joe Dante. The Movies That Made Me is recorded live in Hollywood and engineered by film composer Don Barrett. Our clip is from the premiere episode which dropped back in July of 2018 with guest, director Miguel Arteta (Beatriz At Dinner, The Good Girl, Duck Butter), who joins to discuss his love for the movies of Russ Meyer. Of Mice And Men And MonstersFrom the show's description, this is a real play podcast where Dungeons & Dragons collides with the classic stories you either love or completely avoided while in school. Join players Aaron, Adam, Kimmie, and Dungeon Master Katelyn, who is also a high school English teacher by day, as D&D elements are dropped into famous pieces of literature. The clip comes from July 27th, 2022 - Chapter 49: "Macbeth - Part 1" - As our heroes arrive at Lady Macbeth's villa, the hunt for the 2nd mysterious page has officially begun! The Three Questions with Andy RichterAs the show's description enlightens us regarding this soundcast: host Andy Richter asks the same three questions to each guest: Where do you come from? Where are you going? What have you learned? These three simple questions, when answered honestly and thoughtfully, are enough to provide a pretty complete picture of who a person is. The answers are what Andy always wants to know about people. This will not be a one-sided process, as Andy won’t shy away from getting personal himself. I'm clipping from right toward the end of this past year, the epi that dropped the day after Christmas. Andy's guests are The Sklar Brothers. Randy and Jason join Andy Richter to discuss the marriage of sports and comedy, finding their scene(s), going to the same college as your twin, and much more. Congratulations to us! We made it to the end of the beginning of Succotash 2023. Episode #339 comes more-or-less neatly to a close, and here we all are tearfully waving at it from the docks as it heads for the Undying Lands of the internet where nothing really goes away unless magnets… Hopefully?…We will have hard drives in our heads that will be magnetically shielded against accidental EMPs or perhaps M.R.I. machines…I'm not 100% sure how all that works, but I am grasping at straws. Maybe things are supposed to go away regardless of modern methods of record-keeping. The more I think about it, I realize that all methods of record-keeping were "modern" at one point. Thankfully, we have the podcast — or the soundcast as we refer to them here on Succotash — as a way of keeping records that exist as long as the methods that preserve them are sound, and people take the time to listen to them. So, thank you for taking some of your time to listen to us. We really appreciate it. Perhaps you'd like to share your experience of us with other people? We'd also appreciate that. And tank you to everyone at Succotash for making me feel welcome over the years…Thank you, the audience, for being with us whenever you are or were. Be decent to each other, and if someone asks you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and we happen to qualify as your answer…won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi338: First-of-the-Year Foursome!

Succotash Epi338: First-of-the-Year Foursome!
Welcome to our first “real” Succotash episode of 2023! I’m Marc Hershon, your host for this week’s Episode 338, “First-of-the-Year Foursome”. Here’s wishing you and yours a fantastic New Year. As your Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, we’ll be bringing you a whole bunch of clips throughout this coming year. Mostly from comedy soundcasts – our name for “podcasts” – but we also vary from that from time to time. All to give you a taste of the hundreds of thousands of shows that are out there in Soundcastland. We sample ‘em for you with hopes you’ll be curious enough to go check ‘em out yourself. When I say “we”, in case you’re new to this program, it’s all about me and my awesome co-host Tyson Saner. (Although we’re co-hosts, we prefer to divide and conquer, meaning that we each host alternating weeks.) And the reason I call this the first “real” episode of the year? The past two installments of this soundcast were Succotash “Second Helpings, with the most recent one, Epi337, with your aforementioned loyal and faithful co-host Tyson, featured a reheating of Episode 173 with special guest Hunter Block. You can still catch wherever you find, get, or trap your soundcasts, including Soundclouds, Spotify, PodBay, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, Stitcher, Apple and Google Podcasts. Feel free to start your hunt right at our homesite, SucccotashShow.com, where the entire archive of almost 12 years of shows has been loving curated for you. So what do I have in store for you, snippet-wise in this installment? I have delectable samples from SNAFU, The Retrospectors’ Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. As if that’s not enough, we also have a sparkling, brand new advertisement from our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson’s Pants, featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt. CLIPS SNAFUOur first offering is a clip from a show hosted by comedian, actor, and now soundcaster Ed Helms, who you hopefully know from his stints on The Daily Show, The Office, and the Hangover movie franchise. The show’s description puts it best, in that the show is about history’s greatest screw-ups. The first season of SNAFU, which recently concluded, delved into the story of something called Able Archer 83, a NATO military exercise that almost touched off a nuclear was in November or 1983. Maybe. If you ever saw, heard about, or remembered a feature film from that same year: Wargames, starring Matthew Broderick as a kid who ends up tangling with a military battle simulator computer that, well, almost starts nuclear Armageddon. Or does it? Anyway, it’s a great show, uncovering stuff in history most of us probably don’t know anything about. As part of his uncovering the story, Ed talked to both Broderick and the director, John Badham. And after the season was mostly over, he recently dropped a bonus episode featuring his chats with the two Wargamers. We have a sample of his convo with Matthew… The Retrospectors: This Day in HistoryThis is a daily show, as evidenced by the title, but each episode only runs about 10 minutes. So it’s either a great kickoff to your other soundcasts or a nice palate cleanser between shows. Hosted by Olly Mann, Rebecca Messina, and Arion McNicoll, each episode is packed full of fascinating tidbits about something in particular that occurred that particular day in the past, as well as many of the trappings that surrounded it. Our clip comes from an episode that dropped last Friday called “Rink-O-Mania!” and rips the cover off the invention and introduction of the first roller skates… The Worst Idea of All TimeI’m reasonably certain that you had to have heard of the next soundcast we’re featuring. Hailing from New Zealand, TWIOAT quickly got notoriety when it popped onto the scene in 2014. That’s because the two hosts, Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt, centered the whole freshman year of the show by watching and reviewing the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2. Once a week. Every week. For an entire year. Then they went on to do the same thing with Sex and The City 2, Sex and The City, We Are Your Friends, and the Emmanuelle franchise of softcore porn films. Their latest challenge? The Fast and Furious franchise. The franchise. In reverse order. While they still mostly go it alone – who else would want this crazy duty – they occasionally bring in people that are fascinated by their ordeal. Just last week, they dredged through the details of F9, as the 9th installment is lovingly known, with none other than comedian, actor, and soundcast host, performer, producer, and all-time most frequent guest Paul F. Tompkins. In our clip, Paul starts to explain the plot of the film as if he had to pitch it to a crowd of people fleeing a burning theater. Unpopular OpinionComedian and writer Adam Tod Brown and co-host Jeff bring you Unpopular Opinion every week. It’s often relevant news and pop culture-related topics, of which the guys often have contrary perspectives. Back a few weeks ago, in December, they dropped an episode entitled “The Ballad of P22”, which was the designation of an storied and infamous mountain lion roaming the Los Angeles environs. They talk about P22’s history and recent demise, some news stories about the Los Angeles city council, Dungeons and Dragons as therapy and the saga of Burnt Toast, which was the name of a cat that, well, just may have killed an alligator. Listen up… That’s it for the clips this week but now is the time to get yourself ready for our next week’s show, Episode 339, because it is Tyson Saner’s ONE HUNDREDTH SHOW! I’m not sure what he’s got in store but man, am I glad we have him. Speaking honestly, if Tyson hadn’t accepted the challenge to jump in hear – first as a host to relieve me for a couple and then to alternate weeks with me since the start of the COVID pandemic, you would not have a Succotash Show to listen to today. So be sure to grab next week’s show from this feed and don’t be shy about sending in some congratulations, either on our @SuccotashShow Twitter and Instagram accounts but directly to him here at tyson@SuccotashShow.com! See you week after next. And, in the meantime, if you get pulled over by a police officer and you don’t think you’ve done anything wrong, just wait until he strolls up to the car, roll down the window and expect him to ask, “Have you heard anything good lately?” At that point, won’t you please pass him the Succotash? — Marc Hershon sjgALOuKCEX65JNy5SZm

Succotash Epi337 - Second Helping of Epi173 with special guest Hunter Block
Felicxan Novjaron, estas mi Tyson Saner, and I am not here for this episode. This is a trip back into the archives of Succotash — a "Second Helping", if you will — to ring in the new year with classic material! Happy New Year to you! Although I am not here right now I am recording this portion of the program so as to inform you what is going on. There are multiple origins and convergences of events and personalities to be listened to and we will be getting to them shortly. If you missed last week's installment of this very soundcast, Marc Hershon also served up a Succotash Second Helping from way back in @015. It was Episode 119, and featured his interview with comedian & actor Brian Haley. You can still retrieve it from any of the popular soundcast distribution points on the web, inclduing Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, You Tube, Podbay, Podchaser and, if all else fails, you can always, always, always track it down at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where we have an archive going back to the start of this show almost 12 years ago. This episode contains large portions of Succotash Chats Episode 173: "Bein' Social with Hunter Block". Originally published July 20th, 2018. This was the 10th episode of Succotash I put together as host of Succotash. I have excised the opening from around that time so don't have to suffer thru it, but I have left the outro part of my speech intact so that you'll at least partially understand what I am not subjecting you to at the beginning. Thank you for listening, I will probably have something newish for you in two weeks... and you can also tune in in about a week to Epi338 which will probably be brought to you by Mr. Hershon. Go to www.tysonsaner.com for bunches of content and follow me on TikTok under "tysonsaner" for little bits of content...and perhaps I could be persuaded to dance... Be decent to each other, enjoy this conversation from the past... "Thank you Bill Heywatt" We now return you to my conversation with Hunter Block already in progress. — Tyson Saner
Succotash Epi336 - Second Helping of Epi119 with special guest Brian Haley

Succotash Epi336 - Second Helping of Epi119 with special guest Brian Haley
Happy holiday limbo week, listener, as we say au revoir to 2022 and hello to 2023! Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, Episode 336. I’m Marc Hershon, your host this week for a Succotash Second Helping because I – like many of you – am on vacation from work this week and didn’t want to miss too much of it by cobbling together…I’m sorry…curating a collection of fresh soundcast clips for you this time out. If you missed last week’s show, my partner in crime Tyson Saner (our "crime" being the promotion of soundcasts by playing clips from those shows) brought out a trio of snippets for Epi335 entitled “Clips For Christmas!” The shows featured included Hollywood Palms Podcast, The Besties, and The Viral Podcast. You can still grab it wherever you find your quality soundcasts – places like Apple & Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, iHeart Radio, Facebook, PodBay, Podchaser and, of course, at our Succotashshow.com homesite, which houses that episode and 334 more going back almost 12 years. As I said, I’m off this week so I’ve opened the vault that holds the Succotash archives and digging way back 7 years or so – to our Epi119 that dropped on November 5, 2015. It features my interview with comedian and actor Brian Haley, in an episode entitled “Takin’ Haley’s Comments”. This episode also features a double dose of our old Burst O’ Durst feature with comedian Will Durst. Update on Will’s condition: As many of you know, he suffered a stroke while waiting backstage for a show a little over 3 years ago and is still on the road to recovery. He’s been doing a little bit of performing in the past year – nothing too strenuous or long-winded, and he is still in a recovery facility undergoing daily physical therapy to get back walking again, as well as to regain full use of his left arm. The Go Fund Me account that was established back when this all began is still up and running, because the medical bills keep piling up. If you want to help out, just click over to https://www.gofundme.com/f/awukk-will-durst-needs-your-help (or use the direct link above…) That's really what the show is this week, but it's a jumbo-sized episode running over an hour, so I hope you enjoy it! Tyson plans to take a holiday week off next week, too, so watch this same feed for another Succotash Second Helping and, then after that, we’ll both be back with the live, up-to-the-minute soundcast clip madness again! Until then, have a Happy New Year! — Marc Hershon
Succotash Epi335: Clips for Christmas!

Succotash Epi335: Clips for Christmas!
Saluton, Feliĉan Kristnaskon, Feliĉa Ĥanuko, and if you are listening to this between or after December 26th 2022 to January 1st 2023, Feliĉa Kwanzaa! Welcome to Episode #335 of Succotash that is the last episode before Christmas of 2022. I am Tyson Saner, and I will be your host for the duration. If you listened to last week's Epi334, then you know that it was hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, with whom I share hosting duties with for alternating episodes. In that episode you were no doubt delighted to enjoy the content that he brought you in the form of a show titled Season's Clippings!, which featured five, count 'em, FIVE clips from other peoples' soundcasts, namely the shows known as Hey, Riddle, Riddle; Jordan Klepper Fingers the Conspiracy; Man Thinkers; The Salty Language Podcast AND Fandom!. Also, there was no spot from our longtime FAKE sponsor "Henderson's Pants" to be heard in that episode. There was, instead, a brand-new spot from Bill Heywatt offering his Master Class…on running master classes. It's a well-stuffed stocking of an episode, and I urge you to check it out whenever you can. It is still available to listen to thru the listening platforms Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, PodBay, Podchaser, and at our homesite SuccotashShow.com, where we have that episodes and all of the other ones dating back almost 12 years in the Succotash archives. But that was last week, and this is this week, and for this week I've got 3 clips for you from the soundcasts known as Hollywood Palms Podcast, The Besties, and The Viral Podcast. I've also decided to include a classic Holiday Season Henderson's Pants ad because…'tis the season. I can't think of any reason to delay the proceedings any further, so let's get to it. CLIPS Hollywood Palms Podcast Genius Royale presents the Hollywood Palms Podcasts, wherein each week they interview a guest and then give them a palm reading and talk about their past, present and future. Our clip is snipped from recent Episode 4 from November, 2022, and features guest Sara Benincasa, host of the Well, This Isn’t Normal soundcast and author of "Real Artists Have Day Jobs", "Agorafabulous!" and more! The Besties As the show's description goes, "It's 'Game of the Year' meets 'King of the Hill' as four of Earth's best friends – Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy, Chris Plante, and Russ Frushtick – rank and review their favorite video games. Because shouldn't the world's best friends pick the world's best games?" Our selected snippet is from November 17th, 2022, an episode netitled "Boldly Going Where No Hedgehog's Gone Before in Sonic Frontiers", and in this clip is the end of the conversation about the game "Somerville", which leads into a conversation about the game "Pentiment" on Xbox Game Pass. The Viral Podcast I read that hosts Chelcie Lynn and Paige Ginn are comedians — not therapists — but they have a soundcast which is pretty much the same thing. We sample that in this clip from Epi60 from earlier this month, when the hosts talked about terrible roommates, human tables, goals, salt baths, self help, jokes, would-you-rathers, Oh Do Me, and much more! And that brings us more or less neatly to the end portion of Epi335. I do hope you find something in this episode that was enjoyable, and perhaps you will go in search of one or all of the soundcasts you heard to listen to more of their content. If you do, tell 'em Succotash sent you. You'd be doing us a huge favor and we appreciate you for it. We also appreciate your listening to the end of this episode so you can hear me tell you how much you are appreciated. In the spirit of the season and of the idea itself, be sure to remember to tell those that you appreciate that you do, as often as you can. I feel like that might help foster a social environment that will be more beneficial to the overall psyche of society…if that's a thing. I believe it can be. So, until after Christmas, I've been Tyson Saner wishing you the happiest of holiday seasons that could ever be possible. Thank you Marc Hershon, Joe Paulino, Bill Heywatt, Kenny Durgess, and Scott Carvey for more than a decade of the feeling that I belong somewhere. Enjoy Episode 336, see you again in Episode 337…probably…Be decent to each other and, If you wouldn't mind, please…pass the Succotash. — Marc Hershon

Succotash Epi334: Seasons Clippings!
First off, season's greetings and thank you to our announcer Bill Heywatt, our engineer, Joe Paulino, our booth assistant Kenny Durgis, and Succotash musical director Scott Carvey, and of course, our co-host Tyson Saner with whom it is my esteemed pleasure to share the every-other-weekly hosting duties on this here soundcast. We couldn’t do it without our talented, hard-working crew – all working for peanuts. Literally, peanuts. That’s all we can afford since we have no paying sponsors. (You can Venmo us a donation, if you like. For whatever amount you’d like. One dollar. Two. FIVE bucks? More? It’s totally up to you, but if you Venmo it to me, Marc Hershon, @Hershco – h-e-r-s-h-c-o – it will be used for offsetting our production and hosting costs. I can also kick Tyson a few bucks. So we won’t say no to Venmo!) I mentioned Tyson Saner and if you happened to miss last week’s Epi333, he was in rare form. Fresh off some well-earned vacation time over Thanksgiving, he served up a quartet of clips from such shows as Tough Drafts; The Crazy Life; Barnes, Brenner & Fitzgerald, and The Bitter Sound with old pal of the show Davian Dent. You can still grab yourself a big handful of Succotash Episode 333 wherever finer soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded, including Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, PodBay, Podchaser, and at our SuccotashShow.com homesite, where we have that episodes and all of the other ones dating back almost 12 year in the Succotash archives. As for this week, my “Season’s Clippings!” episode, I’m featuring a fivesome of fine feathered clips from the soundcasts Hey, Riddle, Riddle; Jordan Klepper Fingers the Conspiracy, Man Thinkers, our old friends over at The Salty Language Podcast AND an old friend with a new show, Fandom! The Podcast! In addition, we’re putting aside those freebie spots from Henderson’s Pants this week, to bring you word about something truly new, unique, and wonderful. It’s our own Bill Heywatt offering his master class…on running master classes. CLIPS Fandom! The PodcastI had pretty much pulled all the clips together for this episode and was getting ready to record when I happened to have a text exchange with a couple of old friends of mine from my sketch comedy days in North Hollywood with a group called Fries On The Side. Kenny Stevenson and Dorien Davies have been special guests on Succotash WAY back in Episode 20(!) Anyway, we were texting about something or another and Kenny mentioned that he and another old chum, Alex Enriquez, had just started a new soundcast. Kenny used to co-host a sports soundcast called Knuckle Sanwich – great title – but that had been down for a while. So he and Alex have started a new show – right up my alley as they cover a lot of super-nerdy pop culture territory – and I just got this clip in under the wire for this episode. Their show is called Fandom! The Podcast, from the Fan Controlled Network, and their most recent episode talks a lot about the new Willow streaming show on Disney+. Jordan Klepper Fingers the ConspiracyOne of the best forces for pseudo-journalism goodness has got to be Jordan Klepper, who’s been a fixture on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show for years. He’s got a six-episode limited-run soundcast under the Comedy Central banner called Jordan Klepper Fingers The Conspiracy, where he digs deep into some of the wildest MAGA theories he’s heard and, according to the show’s description, “traces their origins with journalists, experts, and anyone who might have a lead on when JFK Jr. is coming back. The soundcast offers an opportunity to better understand some of the most extravagant stories Americans tell themselves.” In Epi5 of the series, Jordan wades deep into the history and mystery that is “Hunter Biden’s Laptop.” We have a sample… Hey Riddle RiddleI’ll be the first to admit this, but some soundcasts get past me. Maybe I’m not paying attention or maybe it’s because there are a couple hundred THOUSAND of them out there now. But I’m really ashamed to ‘fess up to missing Hey Riddle Riddle, mainly because it’s hosted by a trio of improv and sketch performers and those are MY people. Adal Rifai, Erin Keif, and John Patrick Coan are Chicago-based and they’ve been doing Hey Riddle Riddle for at least 4 years now. Out of the Headgum Studios, their homesite only has shows through their 4th anniversary show, which dropped this past August 27th. But there are still fresh installments coming out, available on Apple Podcasts, etc. What is Hey Riddle Riddle, for those of you who are like me and in the dark? Their show’s description on Apple Podcasts reads, “Riddles! Puzzles! WhoDunnits! Adal Rifai, Erin Keif and John Patrick Coan, three of Chicago's most overrated improvisers, are on the case to solve every riddle, puzzle, brainteaser, and head-scratcher known to humanity. Some riddles are almost impossible, some are absolutely improbable, and some simply have not aged well. And if you don't like riddles, don't worry! This podcast is barely about them!” I bring you a pull from their 4th season finale episode where they get into guessing movie title mashups. The Salty Language PodcastIf you’ve been a listener to this soundcast for any appreciable length of time, you know that both Tyson and I do have our favorites out there in Soundcastland. So we occasionally show them a bit more love than some of the other shows we feature. Tyson just played a bit last episode from our chum Davian Dent from England. I often talk with Jabs AKA Jason McNamara in Australia. And other folks like Hunter Block from Anti Social Show, Ethan Dettenmeier of Combat Radio, Ed Wallick from the hiatus’ed Don’t Quit Your Daycast, and Travis Clark from, originally, Tiny Odd Conversations. A few shows retweet OUR tweets religiously – like The Jock Doc Podcast and I Shake My Head with Lisa and Sam. So I want to do them a solid and recognize their place in our Soundcast Society, too, which is why we’re featuring a clip from a recent installment of The Salty Language Podcast. Hosted by Tony and Bryan, this show has been around probably as long as Succotash. Sluggin’ out the episodes one after the other. The show’s simple description on their homesite reads, “A soundcast about pop culture, living life, and anything else in our tiny brains.” This clip is about one of the guys having made it to his first in-person medical checkup since COVID started. Man ThinkersIt’s hard to tell if the attitude of the hardcore male chauvinist is on the run or just biding its time. I’d like to think that kind of backwards attitude that men have towards women is being eclipsed by something more forward-thinking. Whatever the case, it’s a way of thinking that soundcasters are having fun ripping on in a variety of ways. One of those is an iHeart Radio production, a show called Man Thinkers, featuring George Collins and Dan Finklestein. Here is how the show is described over on Apple Podcasts: “Man Thinkers is a podcast where the facts...are up for debate. For decades, the lamestream media has prevented real men from sharing their knowledge. On Man Thinkers, there are no degrees and no rules. The hosts aren't impressed by run-of-the-mill ‘experts.’ Man Thinkers is a new space populated by iconoclastic thinkers, academic renegades, and media personalities that sound unlike anything else. Cable news is for the old and social media has become too toxic to trust. George and Dan courageously have the tough conversations that mainstream media won’t touch. Man Thinkers is a safe space from safe spaces, nothing is off limits.” In a recent episode that dropped back on November 24th of this year, George and Dan had two women on the show: Liz Plank and Monica Padman. Lis is a Canadian journalist, author, and soundcast host. Monica is an actor, podcast producer and co-host – you’ve heard her on here before when we’ve clipped Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. The Man Thinkers had them on to talk about women freezing their eggs. Here’s how part of the conversation went… That's it for the clips this week. If you've got a comedy soundcast and you'd like us to feature a clip, you don’t have to wait for us to wade through those hundreds of thousands of shows to find you – you can make your own 3-5 minute clip and upload it directly to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash! That’s gonna do it for Epi334 but if you want to hear what’s coming up next, just hang arounds this feed until next week when Tyson Saner shows up with Episode 335 and lays it on you. Tyson’s next episode is our Christmas present to you, as a matter of fact. And MY next show will be that after-Christmas great buy you get immediately after. Have yourself a fantastic holiday season. And remember, if som jolly fat guy in a red suit with white trim should happen to pop up next to your bed one night soon and whisper into your ear, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, it just might be Santa Claus wanting to find something decent to listen to on his way back to the North Pole, so won’t you please pass him some milk, cookies, and Succotash? — Marc Hershon
