Legacy Matters

Sam Devine - Kate Westfall - Marc Dickhut

One of our guests suggested we change the name of the show to more accurately convey what it is we do. Her suggestion was "Four People Talking at a Table". That does pretty much sum it up! Legacy Matters has proven that conversations are still important. On our show, we the hosts do no research on the guests we invite to be a part of our show. Every two weeks we sit down with a stranger and learn their story. We ask questions, sometimes serious and sometimes silly, as we get to know these strangers and start down the road to friendship. Everyone has a legacy! Join Sam, Marc and Kate every two weeks for another amazing episode of Legacy Matters! read less

Jen Gilhoi: SoberNotSomber

Jen Gilhoi: SoberNotSomber
Jen Gilhoi joined us for a show in the comedy basement and while we had a beer, she did not. And you know what? It was fun all around! Jen has built a life around showing people that sobriety doesn't mean the end of fun- in case that is what you think might happen. By talking about alcohol and sobriety in different ways, Jen is helping to normalize these conversations and allowing us to see things in a new light. She's also into sauna- which has become a real theme lately! Check out Sauna Times and listen to our interview with Glenn! From her site-Jen Gilhoi, event experience strategist and founder of Sparktrack, is fascinated with the art of gathering. She especially loves lingering behind and reliving moments others have long since moved on from. In 2014, she moved on from active addiction and began a sober lifestyle. And in recent years, supported by the community of women writers at ModernWell in Minneapolis (We interviewed Julie Burton, the founder), MN, she courageously began exploring memoir to work through past traumas. As an introvert and moderate empath (discovered upon completion of the quiz in Sensitive is the New Strong), she’s discovered that the written word is her avenue to invite others into inquiry and shatter stigmas around addiction. To further that passion, she’s a Dissonance board member, an organization that promotes mental health and recovery in and through the arts. And because the wellness and sobriety journey is not just about not drinking – it’s about living live to the fullest – she also writes about wellness-related products, services and experiences. https://www.jengilhoi.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/legacymatterspodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LegacyMattersPodcastProduced by DevineFox Productionshttps://www.devinefoxproductions.com/#legacymatterspodcast #devinefoxproductions #podcasts #legacy #purpose #conversations #community #TwinCities
Henry Bromelkamp and Jeff Nelson

Henry Bromelkamp and Jeff Nelson
Henry Bromelkamp and Jeff Nelson have been through a lot together. Partners for 36 years, they have each enjoyed successful careers and together they have lived social, active lives. Just before the COVID19 pandemic hit, Henry had an accident. The first half of the show we talk a lot about traumatic brain injuries. This show, and the message it carries, hits close to home for all of our hosts. We have witnessed firsthand the effects of the types of injuries. Please please please wear a helmet when you are exposed to risk. Bicycling, skiing, riding a scooter…anything that carries a serious risk of falling and hitting your head. One thing I took from this episode, and from the first time I met Henry, is that it becomes somewhat hard for people to focus on life outside the injury and its effects. The second half of the show we get to know more about this wonderful couple, their lives before meeting and some of the activities they are currently enjoying.Henry is truly lucky to be alive. His determination to make an impact on the world remains fully intact. Enjoy the show and please take good care of yourself and those you love. Here is a link to an article about Charles Feeny, who Henry worked with for over 15 years. What an honor that must have been.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/legacymatterspodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LegacyMattersPodcastProduced by DevineFox Productionshttps://www.devinefoxproductions.com/#LegacyMatters #RealConversations #GetToKnowYourNeighbor #UpperMidwestStories #EverydayLegacy #AuthenticVoices #LifeStories #MidwestPodcast #NeighborhoodChronicles #HumanConnection #HeartfeltStories #UnforgettableMoments #ThoughtfulConversations #LocalVoices #GenuineStories #HenryBromelkamp #TBI #JeffNelson
Houston White of… well, I guess Houston White.
05-10-2023
Houston White of… well, I guess Houston White.
Houston White walked into the Comedy Corner Underground and was immediately amazed. He was genuinely charmed by the rawness of a space so clearly carved out of what would have been an unused and unloved basement. It was reminiscent of spaces he loves from NYC. That was before we even began the show. From there we got to know Houston in the way we do- we talked. We opened up the conversation to learn more about some of the experiences that have led Houston to where he is today. In case you don’t know, Houston White is the man behind the brand by the same name. I am so glad that we have stayed committed to not researching our guests, as there is a lot of information out there in the world about Houston. We talk about the family drywall business, the maturity that has helped Houston understand that it is okay that he is the brand. We discuss safeness as an alternative to safety- which was the first time I had heard the two things talked about in that way. And we spend some time working through the importance of positivity, and the role we play in shaping a future that is full of safeness and safe places for all of our children, as they are the real reason for our endeavors, or at least they should be.Oh, and we get a very thoughtful and surprisingly fact-filled (for our show anyway) rundown of why barbershops have historically been a central hub for community, wealth and activism within the black communities of America.
