Stop the Stigma

Randell Gresham

Substance use disorder is one of the most stigmatized and criminalized mental illnesses on the planet. Stigmatized beliefs and misinformation cause many to believe that addiction (to anything, not just drugs, and alcohol) is a choice but that is very far from the truth. No one wants to be addicted, no one starts using substances with the goal of becoming addicted. The Stop the Stigma Podcast was created to help stop the stigma that surrounds substance use disorder because the stigma is partially responsible for so many that are suffering from SUD not seeking help and therefore contributing to the growing number of overdose deaths. With Fentynal running rampant in our streets, contributing to the 107,622 overdose deaths in 2021, it’s now more important than ever to be properly educated about this terrible mental illness and how to help those that need it. Stop the Stigma aims to give a voice to those that have lived and suffered from substance use disorder by allowing them to tell their stories so we can see the truth behind addiction. read less
