Chernobyl Miniseries Episode 4: "For the Happiness of All Man Kind"
DISCLAIMER: This episode contains graphic depictions of harm done to animals. While no animals were harmed in the making of this podcast and of this miniseries, there are some graphic descriptions. These descriptions are based on real-life testimony from the people who served as liquidators in Chernobyl exclusion zone. We venture further into the clean-up effort inside the "exclusion zone" as the top ranking officials make tough decisions on how to clean up very radioactive material. We also follow along with a few "liquidators". Even though this story is mostly fictional, these men and women who served inside the "exclusion zone" risked potential health factors to prevent any further catastrophe. Listen to some of their story as we watch the penultimate episode: "Open Wide, O Earth."Have a movie recommendation?DM me on Instagram or Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Pandora: https://pandora.app.link/XPR5L4NB8gbInstagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcast

2001: A Space Odyssey-Stanley Kubrick takes us on the Ultimate Trip.
Have a movie recommendation?DM me on Instagram or Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comIn the history of cinema, there are certain films that come along that seemingly define their genre. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for spaghetti westerns, Ben-Hur for the epics, The Shining for horror films, and so many more, but no film defined its genre better than the 1968 Science-Fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The making of 2001 is almost as interesting as the movie itself. In 1964, legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick met best-selling science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke. Together, they started working on a story that was based on a previous short story that Clarke himself had written. In a very unique development process, Kubrick made the movie as Clark wrote the novel.  Not only the writing process, but the filming of the movie itself was groundbreaking as well. Specialized sets had to be designed to give the illusion of being in space. Groundbreaking camera tricks were designed to help with the illusion. The special effects were the best of the time, and still somewhat hold up even today, including a special photography trick that gave us the most famous sequence in the movie. (Kubrick won his only Oscar for the effects on 2001) The story of 2001: A Space Odyssey is honestly too convoluted to be typed out in a few short paragraphs. It spans millions of years, beginning in the pre-man era of Earth all the way to the first year of the 21st century. There’s feuding man-ape tribes. There’s a space station and a moon-base. There’s a mission to Jupiter. There’s a malfunctioning (or not) computer. There’s a bunch of stars. And in the middle of all of it, a big black rectangular monolith. How is all of this connected? Have a movie recommendation?DM me on Instagram or Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comTrivia time!!What is the only Pixar film produced before 2006 that does NOT have a sequel/prequel/franchise? Well it's the movie of today's episode, A Bug's Life. Released in 1998, A Bug's Life tells the story of an oddball ant named Flik who only wants to help his colony. When they are harassed by a gang of grasshoppers, Flik will go out of his way to find "warrior" bugs to help fight off the grasshoppers. Will he find these "warriors"? Will he fight off the grasshoppers? Will hilarity ensue?A Bug's Life was the sophomore effort from the upstart animation studio. They set out to prove that they were not just a one-shot wonder, and boy did they prove it.  Not only did Pixar expand the technical bounds of what was possible with computer animation, they also set out to do a more complex story with more complex characters than had ever been seen with computer animation. The result was (and still to this day is) one of the best looking computer animated films of all time.Listen along as we dive into this film that has largely taken a back seat to Pixar's subsequent films, but that still holds a dear place in the hearts of those who know of its greatness...Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Instagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcast

Pixar Short Films Part 2-From Geri's Game to Day and Night
Have a movie recommendation?DM me on Instagram or Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comPixar Animation Studios was built from their successful short films. In our last Pixar Shorts episode, we explored how Pixar built their animation techniques and technology that led them to an unprecedented run of success in the late 90's and the 2000's. For a while after the studio made their short film Knick Knack, they paused the production of short films to eventually make the feature-length hit Toy Story. They picked up production in 1998 when they released the short film Geri's Game. Thus, a tradition was born. Pixar has released a short film with every feature length film release starting with Geri's Game and A Bug's Life in 1998 and continues to do so to this day.For this episode, we are going to pick were we last left the Pixar short films. Starting with Geri's Game in 1998 to Day and Night in 2010, we are going to watch the wonderful short films Pixar has produced. From interesting behind the scenes stories, to interesting directors who got their start at Pixar by creating one of these great films. It's a short one but a good one!! James Cameron's Titanic-The Ship of Dreams comes to Life Again
109 years ago…… At 11:40PM on April 14th, Titanic met her match, in the shape of an iceberg. At 2:20 AM April 15th, after only 5 days on the sea, she slipped beneath never to see the light of day again.Living forever in a perpetual world of darkness…..In memory of the 1,496 who didn't make it...In a special memorial episode of The Movie Commentary Podcast, I bring you the episode that I have been waiting to do ever since I saw this podcast. James Cameron’s film Titanic became a landmark point in film history when it was released in 1997. It became the first film to gross over $1 billion at the box office. It held the record for highest grossing film of all time for over 10 years. It tied the record for most Oscars won for a film (11). It is also seen by many as one of film’s last great epics. Movies that are made on a big scale, with giant set pieces and thousands of extras. For fans of the actual ship itself, it brought the ship back to life. Never before had people seen the RMS Titanic sail in beautiful sunlight in living moving color. It brought us the joys of sailing to a new world for hundreds of immigrants. It brought us the elegance of the first class. It brought us the suspense of hoping, pleading that she would somehow miss the iceberg. It brought us the crushing realization that this beautiful ship, thought to be unsinkable by some, is going to sink. It brought us the horror of how terrible that night must have been for those who couldn’t get a lifeboat. And finally, it brought us the grief and sadness that the real passengers felt when they realized the people they grew to love didn’t make it. Simply put, no movie, no experience puts you on Titanic like this movie does.Listen along as we dive into several key components of this great film. From several key historical events to fictional components to interesting behind the scenes stories, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/

You have a movie recommendation? You want to see a commentary of your favorite movie?DM me on Instagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comWhen Titanic sunk in April of 1912, very few would believe that people would talking about it in 100 years. 109 years on from the ill-fated maiden voyage, the story of the Titanic continues to fascinate the world over. Today, we'll take a look at one of the earliest big-budget studio films to tackle the Titanic disaster. The 1953 film titled Titanic was produced by 20th Century Fox and starred Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck, Audrey Dalton, and a very young Robert Wagner. The film follows a woman named Julia Sturges who boards Titanic in an effort to take her kids to America to live a more grounded life instead of the wealthy first class life they were living in Europe. At the last second, her husband Richard discovers the plan and boards Titanic in an effort to talk her out of it. Their strained relationship will be tested throughout the entire voyage. Secrets will be revealed. Loyalties will be tested. Love will blossom. How will it all fare when the ship hits its destined iceberg?Although not the most historically accurate re-telling of the Titanic disaster, the 1953 film remains an important part of the Titanic story as it was the first major American made film about the disaster, and is a must see for any Titanic history buff.Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Instagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcast
A Hard Day's Night-In The Eye of The Beatlemania Hurricane

A Hard Day's Night-In The Eye of The Beatlemania Hurricane
Imagine yourself in the shoes of the Fab Four from Liverpool (also known as The Beatles) in 1964. You've just released a single that has reached number 1 in the US. You've went on a tour of the United States, which included a stop on the legendary Ed Sullivan Show. You are already lighting the world on fire with your music. Surely there is nothing more that you can do.  Except for making one of the greatest jukebox Comedy films of all time. That's exactly what happened when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr starred in their first feature film outing. A Hard Day's Night follows 36 hours of they days in the lives of these 4 brits. There's a short-tempered manager they have to deal with, and an apparently cranky clean old grandpa. Will their TV performance go off without a hitch? Will Ringo get the respect he deserves? Will Shake ever stop being taller than Norm?Produced by United Artists, A Hard Day's Night was an interesting project to say the least. Mostly created to sell records in the US, no one knew the impact this film would have on music in film and the style of filming music. Listen along as four boys from Liverpool do a whole lot of singing, dancing, and parading. Find out why the director Richard Lester is considered the grandfather of MTV and so much more!!Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Instagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcast

Halloween-The Night the Slasher Genre became Iconic
Big thank you once again to Noud van Harskamp for allowing me to use his Halloween theme cover for this episode!!Links to Noud on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/juggernoud1Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1bRmsuNctWXZPpWAR7Qi4EWebsite: https://www.noudvanharskamp.com/Everyone knows the slasher film genre.  You have some weird, psychotic killer going around killing horny teenagers and then one final girl stands up to them at the end. However ultimately, the killer comes back the next movie because they can't die for some weird reasons.John Carpenter's 1978 Horror Icon Halloween didn't invent the slasher genre, but it pioneered several tropes about the genre and ultimately turned the genre into the lucrative money-maker that it is today.Halloween follows Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in her first feature length film) and her friends being stalked by escaped mental institution patient Michael Myers (Nick Castle, among others) on Halloween night. Along the way, Michael is being pursued by his doctor Samuel Loomis (played by Donald Pleasance). Will Laurie and her friends survive the night? Will Loomis stop Michael? Will Michael ever breath out of his nose?(seriously, his breathing is a tad ridiculous)With Halloween turning into a landmark horror film, its hard to imagine that it's the product of a 27 year-old film school drop-out as director with a cast and crew working on their first ever feature film on a budget of 325,000 dollars. But, using clever film tricks, brilliant cinematography, and an iconic score composed by John Carpenter himself, the film turned into a icon for all horror fans to see. Listen along as we dive into this horror mainstay!!!Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Instagram/Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcast

Night of the Living Dead-The Birth of the Modern Zombie Film
Disclaimer-The YouTube version of this podcast will contain the full film with my commentary recorded over. If you would like to watch that version, here is the link to the video:https://youtu.be/sK1eoPuChMUWhen newcomer director George A. Romero embarked on his first feature length film, an independently produced picture going by the production name of Monster Flick, he and his fellow cast and crew had no idea the impact that they would have on modern day horror. Later changed to Night of the Living Dead, this film was the catalyst for modern day zombie movie phenomenon such as 28 Days Later, World War Z, and so many others.Set in rural Pennsylvania (30 miles outside of Pittsburgh), Barbara and her brother Johnny are attacked by a devilish looking Ghoul (they don't use the word zombie in this film). After Johnny is killed, the ghoul chases Barbara to an old looking farmhouse where she meets up with other survivors. As the people hunker down in the old farmhouse for the night, they must make several decisions that will ultimately lead to life or death. Not only revolutionary in its portrayal of cannibalistic flesh-eating corpses, Night of the Living Dead is also lauded as the first movie to cast an African-American in the leading role (Duane Jones as Ben).Listen along as I dive into the interesting history behind the film. From its bare-bones production, to interesting special effects, to even a historic mistake that cost the makers of this film millions of Dollars.
