Illiteracy is a nationwide problem that affects children and adults, and it’s something that’s not going to disappear any time soon. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has been working to help reduce those numbers locally by bringing literacy to residents at the Juvenile Detention Center and the Detention Center. Recently, the Sheriff’s Office received a national recognition in Washington, D.C. for the work they’ve accomplished in providing educational tools to those incarcerated to provide them with a broad range of skills, preparing them for careers that they may not have been able to access before. Sheriff Graziano talks about the continuing work to educate residents-- all in this episode of The Beat podcast, a conversation about the Charleston County Sheriff's Office and our beautiful South Carolina community.
