Chevalier gives a report of his findings to the Council, who agree to let him continue studying Emily.   He is reminded of the Winchester story and finds it too coincidental.   After an accidental encounter with Emily, Chevalier finds out the startling truth about her heritage.

Another heku confronts Chevalier and he learns even more of her family’s shocking past.  Following a horrifying accident, Chevalier finds himself taking care of Emily and having to make a hard decision that could bring her into his world.
